It was the second straight defeat for the Gaels while Marquette retained its unbeaten record by gaining its fifth straight victory of the season. With the floodlights of the huge lake front stadium gleaming down on their golden-hued uniforms, the, stalwarts from Milwaukee struck with startling suddenness in the first period for two touchdowns. The big Gaels, bearing down with their great ad- vaptage in weight, blasted right back for .a touchdown before the initial period ended, and were on the way1 to another when the half closed.- Opening up again in the third ses- sion, Marquette clinched its fifth BULLETIN CHICAGO, Oct. 30.-(')--Reports I that two or three Minnesota football stars might be declared ineligible for Saturday's game with Northwestern were learned tonight to be unfounded. In a secret-session yesterday with members of the Big Ten committee, Jqhn L. Griffith, Big Ten commis- sioncr, discussed the eligibility of nu-I merous Western Conference players, with none being identified. Major Griffith would make no com- ment other than to say that the en- tire matter was settled at the com- mittee meeting last spring and that no Gopher players would be kept out of the lineup against the Wildcats. etroit Upsets Dukes In Last Period 14 To 7 Palumiho-Farkas Passes Score Two Touchdowns SPARTAN FROSH WIN man football team today celebrated EAST LANSING, Oct. 30.--(A')- a 14-to-0 victory over the Central The Michigan State College fresh- State Teachers College freshmen Visit your Downtown SQUAR E GUN CLUB CITY CIGAR STORE 106 East Huron Phone 7289 I - k triumph of the campaign on a long pass from the brilliant Buivid to Bill (Red) Higgins, six-foot junior end, which a bit of good fortune helped turn into the final touchdown of an exciting struggle. Buivid, 190 pounds of speed and red-hot passing talent, touched off the first touchdown drive with a daz- zling sweep of 20 yards around the Gael's left end. He finished it seven plays later with a 13-yard dash around the'same flank. Ward Cuff's place-kick made it 7 to 0. Stung but far from 'groggy by Marquette's opening wallop, St. Mary's started out to get that touch- down back in a hurry, only to have the flashing Buivid turn a passing as- sault into the second avalanche score. Ned O'Laughlin, hard-working Gael halfback, shot a 15-yard pass to John Giannoni, then unleashed a long heave at the same receiver. Buivid Scores On Long Run Buivid leaped in front of Gian- noni, snatched the ball from the Gale+ end's outstretched hands ,and head- ed for the St. Mary's goal-line 15 yards away. He cut over to the eastern side line, jerked loose from1 one defender and, with blocking when' it counted most, dived into the corn- er for his second touchdown. Cuff's second attempt for an additional, point was wide. Still anything but licked, the Gaels; started all over again and this time marched straight up the field on pow- er plays to their touchdown.1 Traynor Will Again Manage Pittsburgh PITTSBURGH, Oct. 30.-W)-Pie Traynor tucked a new contract as manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates in his pocket today and headed for the trading marts-his eyes gleaming at the mention of pitchers and back- stops. State, fighting for a" comeback af- ter losing to Marquette last Saturday, staked its hopes on a cocky squad of sophomores andjuniors, bolstered by veterans who are fighting mad be- cause their coach demoted them. Boston considered Coach Charley Bachman's punitive action a piece of strategy that would send his greener material into the game primed to make good, with the seniors trying to show up their younger team mates and win back regular assignments. Farkas scored both Detroit touchdowns on passes from Palumbo. More than 15,000 saw the loosely- played gane, in which fumbles cost much yardage and in which Du- quesne drew a total of 140 yards in penalties for illegal shifts, roughness and holding. With only 15 seconds to play, two Duquesne players were sent to the showers for their fistic protest against a penalty assessed by Referee Mag- idsohn. The Dukes, after fighting the De- troiters from their goal line through- out the first half, drove into Titan territory just as the second period ended, and r took advantage of a blocked punt in the third to score.: Crutchfield of Duquesne caught the rebounding ball behind the Detroitj goal line, and Brumbaugh added the 1 extra point from placement.
