Clark, of the research engineering department. The purpose of the machine is to determine the characteristics of the metals such as tensile strength and ductility under high temperatures. The metals -thus tested are used for such purposes as super-heaters and oil cracking tubes. The machine, which looks like a large vise set on end, has an electric furnace which will heat the metals as high as 2,300 degrees Fahrenheit, was installed at a cost of approxi- mately $4,500. It has three pressure ranges which enable the engineer to get a better idea of what is happen- ing at the lower stresses. This type of machine is extensively used in commercial research labora- tories for the determining of the strength of various metals under dif- ferent temperatures and stresses. With the machine metals can be subjected to a stress of as high as 60,000 pounds per square inch. P OLITICAL, ADVERTISEMENT IThe Democratic CandidateI Don't procrastinate any longer!
