O'Mahoney; Mrs. Roosevelt and friends; four cars of Presidential and White House guests; the White House press in seven cars; the Michigan correspon- dents; state officials. The Presidential tour of the State was filled with humorous incidents. For instance, when the train stopped in Lansing, Governor Fitzgerald boarded it and extended an official welcome to the President. But clever Democratc kept the Republican gov- ernor from appearing with Mr. Roosevelt on the platform. Trains Miss The Presidential train, which pulled into Grand Rapids '15 min- utes after the Sunflower Special of Governor Landon left, "got lost" in Detroit tonight. The President was forced to wait in his car a half hour at the Union station, because his train had not been brought down from Highland Park, where he left it for the downtown parade. He was able to get away on schedule, anyway, for Cincinnati. The President left directly from the City Hall after his speech for Union Station, instead, as was prev- iously planned, going to the Hotel Book-Cadillac for conferences. The crowd, however, would not believe it, and surged around the entrance until dispersed by police. Mr. Roosevelt would shove a stick of chewing gum into his mouth after the finish of almost every speech. Edmund C. Shields, Democratic National Committeeman from Mich- igan, and others expressed them- selves as "more than pleased" with the reception Michigan gave Presi- dent Roosevelt.
