Indi- cations are that the meet will be very close and the prognosticators have made it known that either the Hoo- siers or the Wolverines can eke out a victory. Coach Charlie Hoyt and his 24-man squad left here early yesterday morn- ing by auto and will return imme- diately after the meet. An idea of the relative strength of the two teams may be gained from a comparison of their respective records against Illinois, a comparatively weak squad. The fol- lowing week the Indians made the trip to Ann Arbor where they received but little better treatment. Mich- igan buried them under a 792-46%12 count to equal the Indiana score made the week before. The only rea- son that the Wolverines were not able to pile up 85 points was that there was no mile relay. There really was nonc at Bloomington either, for Coach Seaton had to forfeit this event be- cause of lack of material. Charlie Hoyt hopes for a sweep in the quarter this afternoon, and he did not appear pessimistic over the possibility that Stan Birleson, Harvey Patton, and Chuck Miller might all combine to present Michigan with nine points in this event. Rich In 440 In addition to Malcolm Hicks who has run 50.4 indoors, Indiana has' Bud Rich in the 440. Rich won the quarter against the Indians two weeks ago, but his time was 50.9, and Hicks has done little or nothing since the comnencement of the outdoor season. Don Lash ran the mile against Illi- nois in 4:27.5 while Brelsford, the suc- ceeding Saturday, did 4:20.1. Ho i- ever, to say that Brelsford could beat Lash on the basis of this perform- ance would be foolish, for while Lash was content to save himself for the two-mile event, Brelsford was prac- ticing for today's meet when he hopes to be able to force the Indiana dis- tance star to run himself out in the mile and prevent him from coming back in the longer grind. Bob Osgood, who negotiated the' high hurdles for a new Michigan rec- ord last week, will be favored over Indiana;s well-known Dan Calde- meyer who was clocked in 14.6 in his last start. Conference Champion Skip Etchells should have easy sailing over Schnei- derman, Hoosier discus man whose best effort is in the neighborhood of! 136 feet, but Bob Collier, who ran a 21.2 220 against Illinois, should be able to shade Wolverines Fred Stiles and Chuck Miller. TRY THIS, GOLFERS Joe Ezar, trick shot artist, can hit four golf balls at one time. Here are seven of the outstanding track and field stars who will compete on Ferry Field Friday and Satur- day im. the State Intercollegiate Track andFild Meet on Ferry Field. In addition to these brilliant competitors, the meet will see such renowned athletes as Gene Beattie, hurdler and winner of the hurdles at the Penn Relays for three successive yealrs; John Lewis, quarter-miler en the 1928 Olympic team, and Bill Zepp fo Mich- igan Normal. The preliminaries to be held today, starting at 2:30 p.m. include competition in the hundred yard dash, 220, 440, the half-mile, the hurdles, shot, discus, javelin, and broad jump. Admission to the pre- liminaries will be free, while a charge of 65 cents, 25 cents of which goes directly to the Olympic fund, will be made to the finals on Saturday. VVIKIESh Garmen Pat. Michigan tennis followers, basing their prognostications on comparative scores, see a victory for the Wolverines since Ohio State, which is being kicked about in the Big Ten cellar, easily defeated the Spartans, 6-3, last week. Capt. Howie Kahn, who lost to Captain Rosa of Michigan State on Kahn's second day of outdoor play, will try consequences with Willard Klunzinger, the Spartans' number one man. This match, the feature of the day, will bring together two well- matched players but Kahn's greater experience should give him the edge. As F eatured in Esquire! * Smart new weaves and colors!
