A badly crippled Michigan track
team, rated as the best in the Mid-
West until hit by eligibility rulings,
will be host to Michigan State at
7:30 p.m. tonight in the first dual
meet of the 1936 season.
The Wolverines have not only suf-
fered through scholastic rulings dur-
ing the past week but physically as
well. Dave Barnes, veteran dash
man, will not compete in tonight's
meet nor will Stan Birleson, starI
quarter miler. Both suffered minor,
injuries recently and Coach Hoyt isi
taking no chances of losing them forI
the all-important meet with Indiana
next week.
Patton May Not Run
Hoyt stated last night that he does
not know whether he will use Harvey
Patton against State, his decision
resting on how he performs in drills
today. Patton has a foot injury. The
fourth of Coach Hoyt's men on the
crippled list, Nelson Droulard, will
definitely compete in the pole vault.-
However, Michigan seems assured of1
at least four first places if Sam Stol-
ler, Bob Osgood, Clayt Brelsford and
the mile relay team continue as they
have done during recent time trials
and the lone meet.
Tuesday night Stoller equalled
Willis Ward's' Field House record of
:06.2 in the 60-yard dash, proving
that he is in excellent shape and may
turn in equally as fast a dash tonight
if pressed. Osgood, one of the best
hurdlers in the Conference, is not
expected to have trouble winning,
wlile Brelsford is favored in the mile.
Having staged a thrilling victory with
Pittsburgh in the special relay Tues-
day, the Wolverines are also favored
in that event.
Strong In Half Mile
As a result of Hunn and Kingsley's
being lost through ineligibility, Mich-
igan will be noticeably weak in the
pole vault, and State is also expected
to mass points in the high jump.
However, State will find trouble fac-I
ing them in other events where Mich- 
igan boasts known strength.
In the half mile Davidson, Starr
and Devine are entered and should
gather at least six points between
them in the event. Bill Staehle and
Walt Stone are also strong contend-
ers for two mile honors while in the
440, even though Birleson and Patton
do not run, Capt. Frank Aikens and
Steve Mason should prove too stiff
for Spartan entrants.
One of the outstanding events of
the program will probably be the mile
run although the race for first place
may narrow down to Ray Fink, prom-
ising Michigan sophomore, and Brels-
ford, Conference indoor mile cham-
pion. This will be the first meeting of
the two incompetition, although they
have run against each other numer-
ous times in time trials with Fink
often showing his heels to the veter-
