ACTIVITY NOTES
Many Christmas parties are being
held by fraternities and sororities
during this last week before vacation.
Alpha Chi Sigma
The entertainment of children

f'

In spite of the wet slushy condition of the weather that prevailed over
the town this past week end . . . everyone seemed to find lots to do in
the day of amusement. There were fraternity parties galore . .. the Soph
Cabaret . . . and the Union as always. And although a good many
complained of too much work to do before vacation . . . they still seemed
to find time to gad about and visit all their favorite haunts before leaving
town for those two glorious weeks that are almost upon us.
There was an atmosphere of old English Christmas at the Lawyer's Club
Friday night . . . with spotlights shining on the stained glass windows
of the dining hall like those you see on Christmas cards . . . We noticed
Josephine Woodhams back for the dance with Marion Yoder . . . president
of the club . . . gazing at the unusual lighting effect . . . The dance hall
was lighted with red and green bulbs with two huge trees at either
side of the orchestra . . . Betty Anne Beebe seemed to enjoy the excellent
music as she danced by with Ken Beach . . .
Quring Intermission . .
Liz Allen in a lovely brown lace was there with Stan Smoyer . . . Jean
MacGregor chose a very unusual dress for the party . . . it was of red
crepe with a long Grecian scarf . . . she was dancing with A. D. Kennedy
.. . Madeline Coe and Harold Klute were standing near the huge trees
in the dining hall during the intermission . . . we also noticed Willard Stone
and Elizabeth Durfee with Herb Jones and Louise Stone . . . aforementioned
Willard's sister . . . Down in the recreation room Mary Jane Downer . .
better known as "Bounce" . . tried her hand at ping pong with Harvey
Walker . . . but Walker had the advantage of long practice . . It was a
grand party .. . and the lawyers did justice to the affair . . .
A t The Phi Gam House. *.
Out at the Phi Gam house Friday there was a nice party in progress.!
We noticed Helen Stevenson and John Stephens on the dance floor . . .
and incidentally they are both called "Stevie" by their friends . . . Maureen
Kavanagh and George Holmes were also dancing at the time. Dorothy
Welsh was there with Tom Breen . . . Dorothy wore a black satin formal
with a large white satin pleated collar . . . and Dorothea Staebler and Jean
Lyon also wore black . . . Dorothea's being velvet trimmed with white
lace. Marlene Fingerle hurried over from the Sophomore Cabaret to attend
the party. . .. in the Cabaret floor show she played the part of an engineer
on the train . . . but she appeared at the party in white satin trimmed;
with a red velvet belt. Billie Keyes and Jack Brennan were also there - .
Billie's dress was a gunmetal blouse over a black skirt . . . and Virginia7
Spray . . . who was with Al Plummer . . . wore black and white. We had
to hurry to get over to the Alpha Delt house party but as we were leaving
we saw Ruth Pardee and Eugene Grey . . . Ruth looked very lovely in green
taffeta.
The Alpha Delta Phi house party lasted from Friday afternoon until
Sunday afternoon and was filled with lots of entertainment . . . a good partc
of which was impromptu. Of course it started on Friday the 13th . ..but
the only one that had any misfortune was Janet Miller. Janet it seems had2
her bag all packed and ready to take over to the Alpha Delt house . . . but
she left it 'in the hall of the Sorosis house and someone picked it up byl
mistake and left Janet with only a sweater and skirt to wear. But then that
didn't seem to daunt her. She was with LeRoy Haskell.
House Party Guests ...r
Among some of the other guests were Marcia Connell with Russell Coler
. . . Betsy Baxter with Kenyon Bevan. . . Tommy Paterson with Homer La-
throp ... Betty Walsh with Jack Healey. . . and Jean Seeley with Bill Smith.
There was a formal dance at the house both nights . . . Friday night ae
Negro orchestra played . . . and Saturday night the house was open to thep
Dekes. Before the dancing Saturday night quite a few people went dressedF
in formal clothes to the hockey and basketball games . . . but apparentlyc
they were in an athletic mood because we hear that about 5 a.m. Sunday
morning a football game was held out in front of the house in all the snows
. . . and again . . . or perhaps we should say . . . still dressed in formal
attire. All in all it was quite a party.e
The stags were very much in evidence at the Chi Psi formal FridayF
night. . . . and they kept things going by cutting in frequently. Amonga
the stags were "Bugs" Brien. . . Fred Mitchell . . Bob Dunn. .. and Toma
Potter . . . a graduate from Birmingham. Priscilla and Marie Abbot were
both there . . . Marie wore red and her sister chose a white formal with ai
beaded bodice. Becky Bursley, in red' was with John McLean and EleanorA
Colbert was dancing with Dick Brooks . . . who is known as a debater ona
campus. As we wandered about between dances we had a chance to talkP
to Don Nichols . . . Harriet Hathaway . . . and Tom Sullivan. Nearby we
heard a very familiar voice . . . it turned out to be Peg Cowie . . . she wasC
there with Charlie Hunt.
On The Dance Floor.-.
The Phi Delt dance promised to be a very good party and it surely was T
.. we noticed Marian Barnum in a lovely black velvet talking with Chuck L
Hopkins as we came up the long front porch steps . . . inside we saw Mar- D
garet Cram and Walter Rathbun wending their way toward the dance floor. A
Margaret looked very nice in a silver lame . . . Bill Anderson and Jane
Pitcher were already enjoying the music and we noticed Barbara Teall and
Harrison Williams were also among the first on the floor.
Leaving Washtenaw we slushed down State Street to the Beta party . .
Jane Lewis in red velvet was standing talking to Whitey Aug and . . . before
long Barbara Worth and John Park joined them ... Barbara looked strik-
ing in blue uncut velvet . . . During the traditional Beta chain dance we
caught fleeting glimpses of Jo Wilcox and John Seeley , . . Marion Dailey

and Paul Kane . . . and Bunny Arner and Fred Boynton . .
Out On In galls...
From the Beta House on State to the Sigma Phi House way out on In-
galls is quite a hop . . . rather breathlessly and a bit wet we entered and
found Jean Laitner and Van Dunakin chatting in the hall . . . Dotty Utley
and Bob Cole danced by just then . . . Dotty looked very charming in
a brown crepe with a green top . . . Mary Margaret Barnes in a white and
gold brocade blouse with a long black skirt . . . strolled in from the
dance floor with Don Sweeny . . . R. C. Rieder . . . social chairman ..
seemed to enjoy the dance he had planned with Virginia Rapp . . . little
wonder for Virginia looked lovely in a red crepe dress . . . Jane Hardy
and Harry Blackburn seemed to agree that the band was the "best ever"
. . . Rinky Palmer and Bud Verdier were of the same opinion . . . and al-
though they did not say so we are sure that Barbara Stewart and Howdy
Davidson thought so too for they scarcely missed a dance .
Around The Christmas Tree ...
The Union was sparsely populated Saturday but it added to the enjoy-
ment of the dancing . . . Jane Mutschler and Bob Trimby were seated in the
lounge smoking as we came in . . . Jane was wearing a long green crepe
with a brown velvet scarf around her neck . . . On the dance floor we saw
Peg Norcross in robin's egg blue gazing at a Christmas sign with John
Kayser . . . John Seeley and Sue Orr . . . Sue looked stunning in a brown
velvet tunic . . . were standing down near the big Christmas tree at the
end of the ballroom talking to Bill Orr and Jayne Roberts . . . Lois was vis-
iting from Michigan State for the week-end . . . Florence Midworth was
