Suggestions Include Cases For Travel, Compacts, Manicure Sets By BETTY E. STRICKROOT Christmas is almost here, and again we are faced with the annual prob- lem of choosing gifts for our favorite friends and relatives. One way of sclving this difficulty easily and suit- ably is to choose cosmetics. There are hundreds of new gift suggestions, all beautifully bottled and cased. Something along this line is equally as appropriate for your young sister, who will be delighted in finding a compact in her stocking, or your maiden aunt. Give Her a Compact Compacts are an ideal gift. One can never have too many of them,1 and this year they are unusually goodJ looking. One yellow gold case is ex- tremely slim and long. It has a gold crown on the face and the contents are of the very best quality. One which satisfies so many of us looking for an attractive gift under five dollars, is a case of polished gold- tone metal with sides and medallion that look exactly like carved ivory. The compact is flat and square, and the. powder and rouge are in very smart shades. There are many small single com- pacts that make ideal gifts for young girls. They come in odd shapes, as for example, a small sea shell - and can be had in any color you de- sire. Manicure Sets Suggested Manicure sets are one of the most useful gifts for a college woman, for the great majority manicure their own nails. These sets can be had at any price depending upon the completeness of the articles con- tained. They are boxed very clev- erly. One set is fully fitted with two shades of polish, remover, oil and all the necessary equipment. It comes in a wood veneer finish box, with a little drawer for the orange sticks, file and cotton. For traveling this same set is enclosed in a leather case with a zipper. Matched cosmetic sets are very UlclUZ46 . G~ly 1 1 G11rl boxes along this line are being shown. "The Beauty Band Box" has nine articles as a complete aid to polish- ing up one's natural beauty. Another box of this type is called "Beauty maker." And finally, there is that ever- popular gift - perfume. There is something about perfume that makes it welcome in every girl's .Christmas stocking. The various manufacturers have outdone themselves this year with new and unusual scents and clever bottles. One of the most talked of, "Indiscreet," comes in a tall, white plaster flacon. It is chic enough for your sister and still appropriate for mother. The popular "Tweed," intro- duced last year, now makes its ap- pearance in a bubbled bottle that is very impressive. A Set of Three Scents If you don't know your friend's favorite scent, send her one of the sets with tiny samples of three dif- ferent perfumes. One set contains the three favorites, "L'origan," "L'ai- mant," and "Paris"; one spicey, one light and one rich enough for impor- tant occasions. Another very pop- ular set contains "Rumeur," "Scan- del," and "My Sin." Any of these! would make appropriate gifts. If you find a complete cosmetic counter and choose your gifts with reference to your friends' particular tastes, you will complete your Christ- mas shopping quickly, and your gifts will be a great success.
