TAGE THE MICHIGAN DAILY TomU RSDAY, DECEMBER 12, 193 Timoshenko Given Engineering Medal Announcement was made last night of the award of the Worcester Reed Warner medal to Prof. Stephen Tim- oshenko of the engineering college at a national meeting of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers held this week in New York. Professor Timoshenko was award- ed the medal for his contributions to! the theory of design of elastic struc- tures and to treatment of the dy- namics of moving machinery. "This award is one of the highest honors which can be conferred by the! Society," Prof. Edward L. Eriksen, chairman of the department of me- chanical engineering, said last night, "and the recognition of Professor Timoshenko's work is well-merited, since he is one of the most outstand- ing men in his field not only in this country, but in the world." Professor Timoshenko came to America in 1918, when he was forced to leave Russia because of the Revo- lution. He was connected with the Westinghouse Co. laboratories until 1927, when he came to the University as a member of the faculty of the mechanical engineering department.
