THE MICHIGAN DAILY TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 1935 Mid-West, East Holding G. 0. P. Nomination Key Changes In Representation At Convention Weaken West And South WASHINGTON, Nov. 11.-(P)- The thickly populated Eastern and Middle Western industrial states will -if they vote together - control the 1936 Republican national convention. Political leaders noted today that due to shifts in delegate representation the West and South will have far weaker voices than in 1932. In 1932, due to the Republican landslide of 1928, these states were in the minority at the convention. Under the Republican system, states which went Republican in the pre- vious presidential andcongressional elections get more delegates than those which went Democratic. The Republican convention next year will be much smaller than the last one, due to the method. The system, designed to cut the representation of the normally demo- cratic solid south, works next year to r'educe the delegations from most states because of the Democratic landslides in 1932 and 1934. Preliminary unofficial tabulations show the convention will have only 996 delegates next year, compared swith 1,154 in 1932. The exact alloca- tions finally will be determined by the Republican national committee at the meeting in December or January. The preliminary figures show the East, comprising New England, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, will have 300 votes. The Middle West, including Ohio, Michi- gan, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin, will have 200 votes. It represents them in their instinctive desire to be of service to suffering humanity. It knows no distinction of race, creed or color. There are no boundary lines, either state or national, in its never-ending mission of mercy for those who are in distress. Democrats In Ohio Support Roosevelt CLEVELAND, Nov. 11. - (P) - A new Democratic organization, "to promote the renomination and reelec- tion of President Roosevelt," was formed here today by the United States senator, Robert J.
