Play-By-Play Story Of Michigan's

Win Tells Of Weird Game

Davis was called down on the 39-
yard line for a 1 yard gain. Huff-
man passed to Antonini who lateraled
to Beasley. Sobsey downed Beasley
on the 35. Wright tackled Davis
who was thrown for a 5 yard loss
by Sobsey. Indiana was penalized 5
yards for off sides. Everhardus in-
tercepted Huffman's pass on the 14-
yard line.
Campbell was stopped for no gain
by Liyingston on a try around right
end. Sweet was dropped by Anto-
nini and Kelso for one yard gain.
Sweet kicked to Norton who called for
a fair catch on the Michigan 44.
Filchock weit inside left end for 2
yards.
Score: Michigan 0, Indiana 0.
SECOND QUARTER
Walker stopped by Patanelli and
Hanshue for no gain. Filchock's
pass to Beasley was good for 4 yards.
Norton punted out of bounds on the
Michigan 14. Campbell was stopped
by Beasley and Del Sasso for a 6
yard loss. Sweet punted out of
bounds on the Indiana 45. Walker
went around left'end for 9 before he
was stopped by Renner. Indiana was
penalized for taking too much time
on the play. Walker went over right
guard and was tackled by Patanelli
and Sweet. Sweet intercepted Huff-
man's pass and was knocked down
by Davis on the Indiana 44.
Campbell made a yard off left
guard. The Michigan left half tried
to go around left end but lost 7. Dal
Sasso broke through the line and
tackled Renner for an 8 yard loss
while the Wolverine was trying to
get a pass away. Sweet punted to
Huffma~n on the Indiana 16. Huff-
man tried to lateral the punt to
Norton who was unable to hold the
ball and was dropped by Smithers.
. Patanelli and Sweet tackled Wal-
ker for a 3 yard loss. Huffman
passed to Antonini who was dropped
by Renner and Campbell. Huffmar's
quick kick was taken by Renner
on the Michigan 44 where he was
stopped by Norton. Michigan took
time out.
Patanelli was tackled by Dal Sasso
for no gain on an end-around. Ren-
ner's pass to Savage was called back
as the Wolverine eleven was penal-
ized 5 yards for being off sides.
Sweet plunted. to, Huffman who
tried to handle it before the Mich-
igain ends downed the bal but only
ninaged to touch it as it caromed
pat him into the Indiana end zone.

kick for the extra point was good.

Everhardus kicked off to Huffman
who carried the ball to the Indiana
16-yard line. Walker was run out of
bounds by Renner after a 6 yard
gain. Davis picked up 6 over left
guard before Bissell tackled him. He
tried left guard once more for no gain.
Fowler was run out of bounds on the
Indiana 47.
Renner was stopped by Dileo after
picking 7 yards inside right tackle.
Everhardus made it first and ten off
right guard. Renner's pass to Sav-
age was incomplete. Everhardus re-
covered Patanelli's fumble on an end-
around for a 2 yard gain. Renner's
pass was knocked down by Norton
and Fowler. Sweet punted over the
goal line for a touchback.
Savage ran Walker out of bounds
after he had picked up 4. Davis
gained 3 through left tackle before he
was knocked down by Wright and
Sweet. Smithers caught Walker be-
hind the line for a 4 yard loss. Fowler
punted out of bounds on the Michigan
39.
Sweet went through center for 1.
Everhardus was stopped by Davis af-
ter a 3 yard gain around right end.
Sweet's punt went out of bounds on
the Indiana 6. Fowler kicked to
Everhardus on the first down, and
the receiver was dropped by Kender-
lein on the 36. Everhardus was
tackled by Dal Sasso for no gain. Liv-
ingston stopped Patanelli at the line
on an end-around. Renner's pass to
Patanelli was grounded. Sweet kick-
ed into the Indiana end zone.
Walker tried a spinner over left
guard. He was nailed by Sobsey after
picking up 3. Davis picked up 2
through center as the gun sounded
ending the half.
Score: Michigan 7; Indiana 0.
THIRD QUARTER
Everhardus kicked off to Heistand
who was downed on the Indiana 24-
yard stripe. Fowler was nailed on
the line attempting to go off tackle.
Fowler passed to Beasley who was
stopped on the Michigan 46. Huffman
passed to Davis who lateraled to
Fowler. Fowler was run out on the
19. Michigan took time out. Sobsey
and Savage stopped Fowler for a 1
yard loss as he attempted to go
around right end. Huffman's pass
was intended for Davis but was
knocked down by Savage. Huffman's

again Savage knocked Huffman's toss
to Davis and Michigan took posses-
sion of the ball.
Sweet tried center for one. The
Michigan full punted to Huffman
who received the ball on the 50 but
fumbled. Cherry recovered the ball
for Indiana. Cherry caught Huff-
man's pass and was run out of
bounds by Smithers on the 33. Sobsey
tackled Huffman as he around right
end for 3. Renner intercepted Huff-
man's pass on the Michigan 18.
Huffman received Sweet's punt on
the Indiana 34. The Indiana triple
threat man lateraled across the field
but the pass was ruled a forward and
the Hoosiers were penalized 15 yards.
Hanshue was injured this play. Sholty
was stopped by Lincoln at left guard.
Heistand made it first and ten over
left tackle. Smithers intercepted
Fowler's pass. Renner gained a yard
over right guard. Renner's pass was
intended for Savage but was knocked
down by Davis. Renner passed to
Patanelli on a fake punt and the
Michigan end made it first and ten
before he was tackled by Olmstead.
Renner made another first down over
right guard. Everhardus made the
third first down in a row over left
tackle to the Indiana 10-yard marker.
The Hoosiers took time out.
Everhardus picked up another 5 off
right tackle. Renner went inside left
guard for 2 and was stopped by Davis.
Smithers picked up another yard in-
side left tackle. Viergever's attempt
for a field goal was unsuccessful.
Sweet stopped Davis after he had
picked up for 6. Davis went through
right guard for a first and ten. He
was stopped by Smithers. Viergever
and Sweet tackled Fowler after a
yard gain. Norton went around right
end up to the Michigan 39 where he
was dropped by Sweet. Michigan took
time out.
Viergever dropped the runner for a

6 yard loss. Filchock's pass to Fowl-
er, who was stopped by Meyers, took
the ball to the Michigan 29. Sobsey
and Viergever stopped Norton com-
ing through center after picking up
3 yards. Filchock reversed and pas-
sed Beasley. The pass was incom-
plete. Filchock tried another pass
and it was knocked down by Sobsey.
A third straight pass to Norton by
Filchock was successful. Norton was
dropped by Renner after making it
first and ten.
Score: Michigan 7; Indiana .
FOURTH QUARTER
Bissell broke through the Indiana
line and stopped Walker for a 3 yard
loss. Walker was run out of bounds
going around right end after picking
up 3 yards. Walker's pass was
blocked and caught by Filchock on
the line of scrimmage for no gain.
Filchock's pass was knocked down
by Savage and Michigan took posses-
sion of the ball.
Kelso stopped Everhardus coming
through center after ne had made
4. Everhardus made a first down off
left tackle. Sweet picked up 4 more
through center. He was stopped by
Sirtosky and Kenderline. Everhardus
went off left tackle to the Michigan
37-yard stripe for first and ten. Mich-
igan took time out again. Renner
made 5 yards inside right end. He
was stopped by Dal Sasso and Keck.
Renner took the ball inside left guard
for 2 before being knocked down by
Livingston and Dal Sasso. Sweet's
punt was downed by Sobsey on the
Indiana 10.
Walker went around right end, fol-
lowing perfect interference, to the In-
diana 47-yard line where he was stop-
ped by Everhardus, the Wolverine
safety man. Davis made another first
and ten inside right tackle. He was
stopped by Bissell and Savage. Walk-
er picked up 9 over right guard. Davis
tried the same position and fumbled

when Bissell hit him. Patanelli re-
covered for Michigan. Livingston and
Kelso smothered Everhardus for a 1
yard loss. Renner picked up 4 off left
guard. Sweet's punt went out of
bounds on the Michigan 47.
Sweet stopped Walker after the
Hoosier back had picked up 6 off right
tackle. Sobsey and Wright hailed
Walker for no gain. Wright dropped
Huffman, who was attempting to get
off a pass, for a 10 yard loss. Huff-
man's punt went out of bounds on
the Michigan 27.
Campbell made 2 over right guard.1
He picked up 2 more on the other side
of the line. Patanelli downed Sweet's
punt on the Indiana 33-yard line. f
Campbell stopped Norton for 1c
yard. A pass, Huffman to Antonini,
was incomplete. A second pass,j
Huffman to Walker, also dropped in-
complete. Huffman's kick was
downed by Keck on the Michigan 6.
Antonini and Kick stopped Sweet af-
ter he made 2 yards off left tackle.
The Michigan full made 6 more on a
fake punt. His punt to Huffman wasj
taken on the 42 where he was hit by
Garber. Huffman, in a final effort
to score ,attempted three consecutive
passes. The first two were knocked
down by Smithers and Renner. The
third was completed but Savage in-
tercepted the lateral as the gun
sounded ending the game.
Final score: Michigan 7; Indiana 0.
