w "THE MICHIGAN DAILY r UR DAY, OCTOBER 10, 1935, Convention On Prevention Of Crime Is Begun First Session Hears Toy Sound Keynote Of Two Day Conference EAST LANSING, Oct. 9. - (AP) - Crime prevention crusaders estab- lished their headquarters here today. They prepared to attack in a two- day conference the problems of juve- nile delinquency, lax parole systems, rehabilitation of youthful first of- fenders, penal administration, nar- cotic traffic, and police cooperation. The crusaders rallied at the call of the state crime commission, and their ranks were made up of law enforce- ment officers from the four corners of the state, and representatives from church, social, civic, and educational Qrganizations, national authorities will address their meetings on special subjects. The program of the conference in- dicated that those attending are in- terested especially in correcting crim- inal tendencies in young people and the reclamation of those who have served in prisons for the violations of soctal laws. Attorney General Harry S. Toy, chairman of the commission, sound- ed the keynote of the gathering in discussing the prevention of crime among young people. He said: "We, who are nurturing the chil- dren of today, are surely training them to fill the shoes and the crim- inal's grave of public enemy No. 1. We are training them for the future by our own indecision, inaction and stupidity. "Rarely do we inculcate in them respect for Christian training, for we have almost ceased to pray ourselves. Seldom do we teach them pride or reverence for our laws, when the very safety of our lives and the peace and security of our homes are in- volved." Prof. Bonner Back From Trip Abroad Prof. Campbell Bonner of the Greek department recently returned from attending the Sixth International Congress of the History of Religions which.was held in Brussels. Professor Bonner presented two papers at the congress, one paper was based on a recently discovered pap- rus manuscript of which half is owned by the University and half of which isindeposited in the British Museum in London. The second paper was "A Prelim- inary Report on the Sermon of Me- lito of Sardis on the Passion." Pro- fessor Bonner spent some weeks at the British Museum in deciphering the portion of the manuscript there, and will publish the entire papyrus sometime within the next two years. k Y. U T T. Student Eliminates Morning Ritual By Expenditure Of 50c A half-hour to shave and comb your hair every morning is 31/2 hours a week ,and that was just too much for Joseph P. Andriola, '38. So he had his hair shaved off and now he won't have to either shave or comb his hair in the morning. The barber in the shop could hard- ly believe Andioloa when he told him what he wanted. "You're just kidding, aren't you?' he said. "No, hurry up and shave my head clean,' said Andriola. "But, I can't do that. "Hurry up or I'll go some other place. I'm in a terrible hurry," said Joseph. And the barber asked the boss who gave his permission. Now Joseph will have 31/2 hours every wee kto study.
