FRIDAY, JANUARY 11, 1935 THE MICHIGAN DAILY PAGE THREE FRIDAY JANUA Y 1-,-935--AE-THRE U Two Varsity Teams Open Big Ten Seasons C. Pucksters To Renew Rivalry WithBadgers Wolverines Are Expected To Show Improvement In Offensive Play A rejuvenated Michigan puck team will face the Wisconsin sextet in the opening game of the Big Ten hockey season at the Coliseum tonight at 8:30 p.m. It will mark the renewal of. a traditional rivalry, since it is the forty-sixth meeting of the two, teams. Michigan will have a much-im- proved offense to show to the in-' vaders tonight. After an intensive training period extending through the Christmas holidays, the forwards have had a light week of drill, and according to Coach Eddie Lowrey, mentor of the team, are much better than they were before vacation. Since, very little is known of the Badgers beyond the fact that they have won five games so far this sea- son, the Wolverines will pursue a policy of waiting for breaks. They will not attempt to rush the Wisconsin goal, the method which has been em- ployed against the Canadian invaders in the preceding encounters. The Michigan starting lineup will remain unchanged in the first Wis- consin contest. Co-captain John Jewell will be in his usual position guarding the Michigan net, Larry David and Don MacCollum will be the defensemen, Vic Heyliger will play the pivot post, and co-captain Johnny Sherf and Dick Berryman will start as wings. There is a possibility that Bill Chase, one of the spares who has not seen action so far this season, may break into the lineup before the series is over. Coach Lowrey cited the im- provement Chase has made during practice, and may replace Heyliger at center, giving the forwards a much- needed relief man. The team will appear tonight in the new uniforms which were ordered some time ago. It is the .first time in some years that the pucksters have had new outfits.
