SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1, 1934 THE MICHIGAN DAILY PAGE THREE SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1, 1934 THE MICHIGAN DAILY Varsity Cagers To Open Season At Grand Rapids Three Lettermen Named To Start Against Calvin College Tonight John Gee At Center Thirteen Are Named For First Trip; Reserves To See Action Michigan's Varsity cage quintet opens its 1934-35 season tonight at Grand Rapids, meeting Calvin College in the Civic Auditorium there. Coach Cappy Cappon has named a starting lineup which includes three letter men and one sophomore, but it is expected to see considerable altera- tion. Cappon announced a squad of 13 men to take the trip, in- cluding Capt. Plummer, Jablonski, Joslin, Gee, Evans, Tomagno, Ford. Rudness, Teitelbaum, Powell, Hill, Rieck, and Meyers. This game will not only be the first test for the Wolverines but will also give indications as to how far John Gee, the six-foot eight-inch sopho- more, has progressed toward making a star center. If Gee does not work well Coach Cappon will replace him with Chelse Tomagno, letter winner on last year's squad. The other members of the starting five are Dick Joslin and Johnny. Jablonski at forwards, and Capt.' Al Plummer and Dick Evans at the guards. Joslin, Jablonski, and Evans are juniors and had experi- ence last season. The Wolverine B team met the Cal- vin Knights last year and defeated them 18 to 13. Though the Knights lost their star pivot man from last year's °squad, they have a veteran squad to meet the Wolverines. The Wolverine reserves are expect- ed to see service tonight. Itudness, one of the smallest men on the team, Powell, Tomagno, Ford, Teitelbaum, and Hill have shown up well in prac- tice. Teitelbaum was counted on to play last season but injuries and in- eligibility kept him out of the lineup. Tomagno, who was a guard on. the 1933 squad, has been converted into a center and has done well at the pivot line. Harry Solomon, a member of the freshman team last year, will be un- able to play because of injuries. IMPRESSES HIS COACH Francis A.
