After serving in the British artil- lery during the war, Dr. Dalton began teaching in the London School of Economics, where he remained until 1925. During those years he also as- sisted the government in labor in- vestigations and as a member of trade boards which adjusted wages and other contentious matters of their particular trades. Elected as a labor member to Par- liament in 1924, Dr. Dalton began his career in political office. He re- ceived the appointment to Ramsey MacDonald's sub-cabinet in 1929 and held this position for two years, as- sisting the foreign minister, Arthur Henderson, in upholding the existing government's foreign policy in the House of Commons. Dr. Dalton's book on "Inequality of Incomes in Modern Communities," is among the best treatments of this important matter. It knits together the economic literature in the subject and offers a number of practical po- litical suggestions with reference to Great Britain. This book was Dr. Dal- ton's first major work. Later he pub- lished two other volumes in the field 1 of taxation: "Principles of Publicl Finance," and "The Capital Levy Ex-1 plamed." Dr. Dalton's lecture is open to the public.v DIES IN FALL1 NEGAUNEE, March 17 -(1) - Gust Luoma, 29, Ishpeming, an em- ployee of the Cliffs Power and Light Co., was fataly injured here when1 he fell from a transmission line poleI south of Mod gan Heights. Pro- fessor Oppenheimer, it seems, took a young lady for a drive in his car, and after a while stopped the car and excused himself for a walk. Two hours later the girl became a bit alarmed, and called the police to search for the missing man. After long searching in the bushes nearby he was found - in his home. It seemed he'd forgotten all about her. 587. 365. 266. 328. 1,173. 686. 684. 1,354. 686. 332. FOR RENT FOR RENT: Comfortable, clean single room, shower bath, private family. Board if desired.
