State Defeats
Grinnell, 14-0,
In First Game
EAST L1ANSING, Sept. 30. - Mich-
igan State won the opening game of
the 1933 season here this afternoon
defeating Griinell College, of Iowa,
14 to 0.
Neither eleven was able to score
in the opening period, play being
confined mostly to the center of the
field. Soon after the opening of the
second quarter, Wagner, State right
tackle, slashed through the Pioneer
line and partially blocked a kick, giv-
ing State the ball on Grinnell's 47
yard line. Jones and McCready made
it first down and a pass, Armstrong
to Zarza, took the ball to the 14 yard
line. Jones slanted off tackle to the
one yard line and plunged over for
the touchdown after three tries. He
kicked the extra point.
Grinnell received the kickoff and
immediately p u n t e d. Armstrong
passed 40 yards to Klewicki, who was
downed on the 20 yard line. State
advanced the ball to the 3 yard line
where Jones plunged over, also add-
ing the extra point, ending the
scoring.

Ann Arbor High School defeated
Ypsilanti Central 25 to 0 yesterday
afternoon at Wines Field for their:
second win of the season_
Coach Lou Hollway started his sec-f
ond team backfield and that outfitI
pushed over two touchdowns during1
the first half. The first score came
at the end of the first quarter when
Haines, Ann Arbor tackle blocked an
Ypsi punt which was recovered by
Weid in the end zone.
The second touchdown came on a
series of passes, Pegan to Buckoiz,
with Buckolz sprinting across the
line.
With the first string backfield in
for the third quarter, Warner, reg-
ular quarter faded back and tossed
a perfect pass to Smith, the Ann Ar-
bor speed merchant, who twisted
through several tacklers for the third
score. Burr, playing at end, inter-
cepted an Ypsi pass and ran twenty
yards for the final score.
