$', 000 Netted By Galens In Annual Drive Repoii. Slows Results To 04 1932 Campaign Almost $1,200 was taken in dur- ing the annual Galens Christmas drive for the benefit of crippled chil- den in the University hospital, it was announced yesterday by S. A. Fiegel, '34SM, president of the honorary medical society. He termed the results "very pleas- ing" and said they were better this year than last. The funds, which were gathered in a drive Dec. 5 and 6, were spemt. largely for a huge Christm6.s partyI and for maintenance of the Chil- dren's Worlkshop. Through that part of the money devoted to the party, the hospital children were provided with such 1hl- i day cheer as Christmas trees, bal- loons, dolls, wagons, toys, candy' cnes, pop corn and other refresh- nients, and paper cards, seals, and other decorations can afford. The Children's Workshop, located on the top floor of the hospital, gives' opportunity for wood and manual work to children housed in the acute units of the hospital. The shop has benefitted an increasing number of children each year, the total reach- ing 1,033 for the year ending last Nov. 1, Opportunities offered in the shop have been augmented by new, tools, books, projects, and activities. The shop is open 22 hours a week under the supervision of a licensed and ex- perienced teacher of manual arts. The fund is usually also sufficient to make possible subscriptions to sev- eral children's magazines. Ex -1Professor In New Haven (Continued from Page 1) under Dr. Phillips in the University and who succeeded him in the history department said the following about the late professor: "Phillips was more than a father to me. His death comes as a great personal loss, while to the profession it is incalculable. He was in the midst of the second volume of his history of the South. No other man can write, as Phillips would have written, the story of the land and people he loved so well. Few men rise to equal heights of scholarship; fewer inspire so many young men through such wide and intimate personal contacts." CLASSIFIED DIRECTORY CLASSIFIED ADVERTISING Phone 2-1214.
