Among the national forests in the State which will be augmented by the proposed purchases are Marquette, Hiawatha, and Ottawa in- the Upper Peninsula and the Huron Forest in the Lower Peninsula. Thousand s Are Off State's Relief Rolls (By The Associated Press) More than 10,000 Michigan men plied picks and shovels or operated graders and cement mixers Tuesday on dozens of civil works administra- tion projects throughout the State. Removed from the relief rolls of Michigan cities and communities, placed at work under wages rang- ing from 55 cents to $1.20 an hour for a 30-hour week, the 10,000 or more men were the first to receive the benefits from a program under which it is planned to place 121,000 persons at work by Dec. 15. Placing of the 10,000 men in jobs was estimated by welfare officials to have removed nearly 30,000 persons from Michigan's welfare rolls, since most of the men are heads of fam- ilies or have dependents who have for many months been receiving welfare aid.
