Here is how the country stands on the liquor question. The sale of spirits would be permissible imme-
diately upon repeal in 19 states. Liquor sales may become possible by act of the legislature repealing or
modifying existing statutes in 16 others. In the remaining 13 states another repealer by the people will be
necessary before liquor sales are permissible. Of these 13 Ohio votes on the issue today.

"A person who plans an environ-
ment for a very young child probably
has more things to take into account,
more possibilities of doing damage,
more responsibility for the whole
child than does the teacher of the
older child," he said.
Saying that each level of education,
should require teacher training of a
high order, Prof. Olson recommended
longer programs of training, with
at least four years beyond the high
school. Teachers' salaries must be
increased to warrant professional
preparation, however, he said.
Elementary school children should
be given practice in co-operation
rather than be made to feel that they
are under the authority of a teacher,
who rules by strength of maturity or
by sheer brute force, he said.
Many persons assembled for the
Parent Education Institute this past
week claimed that we are shifting
from a competitive to a co-operative
society, Professor Olson said.
As methods of co-operation be-
come effective in the schools educa-
tion will revolve around child inter-
'ests and child activities, with pur-
poses capable of being perceivedby
children, he said.
'Children will confer more with'
each other. They will make plans to-
gether. They will help each other.
There will not be the same premium
eon competition. Marks will disap-
pear.
"The teacher is then placed more
in the relationship of an expert and
:consultant in the management of en-
vironment and in the securing of ma-
terials. She is cast to a larger extent
in the role of an acute observer of
means of its modification through
joint action rather than through im-
posed authority," he stated.

development, declared in -a parent
hour radio talk Sunday.

Everyone knows that the team
having the ball uses signals to call
offensive plays, but few know that
Michigan's team when on defense
also has specific plays that are called
by the center, in this case Chuck
Bernard, before each play, so that
the line can be drawn in close when
Bernard foresees a line play, or play
wide when a pass is anticipated.
Kipke's description of pass de-
fense is particularly interesting after
last Saturday's almost fatal demon-
stration at Champaign. He frankly
admits that it is almost impossible
to build a perfect pass defense
against an accurate heayer. Listen:
"A successful passing game fills me
with a greater dread than a pink
toothbrush. The most uncomfortable

Harvard game in 1929 - Barry Wood

calls those last eight minutes. "The-
last eight hours of the Harvard
game" - Probably he will call the
last 15 minutes. of this year's Illinois
game "the last 15 days of the Illinois
game" and give a detailed descrip-
tion of how his brown thatch of hair
turned grey, inch by inch.

'Aircraft Essay
Contest Plans
Are Announced
The Boeing Aircraft Corp. has an-
nounced plans for their aeronautical
scholarships for 1934, according to
word just received by the engineering
college. Four scholarships totaling
$7,500 are given annually to qualified
engineering students.
The basis of competition is a 3,000
word essay on some suitable aero-
nautical subject. These essays, which
must be sent in on or before April 1,
1934, will be judged by a board of
engineers. Competition is opeh to
undergraduate students in all col-
leges in the country.
