Alumnus At New Post Says Marius Lodeesen-Grevinck, '30E, ensign in the United States Naval Reserve, has moved to Miami, Fla., to receive a flying position with Pan- American Airways. Ensign Lodeesen, a native of the Netherlands, was the only naturalized American citizen to receive an appointment for the Navy Flight School at Pensacola, Fla. After completing the training course he served one year with the fleet's aircraft squadrons at San Diego, Calif., and returned to Ann Aibor for graduate work in trans- portation engineering. While com- pleting his work at the University he was attached as flight officer to the squadron at GrosseIle. Survivor Of Last Man's Club Discards His Cane MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 26.-(P)- Charles Lockwood, 91 years old and sole survivor of Minnesota's famed Last Man's Club, has discarded his cane. Here today for a visit, he said the cold weather had aided his health, so that he no longer needed the cane. He prided himself in having made the trip from his home at Chamberlain, S. D., alone. A big job was completed when the Bureau of Economic Geology at the University of Texas published a thou- sand page volume on all the present known rock strata of that state. Football Clinics To { Be At Hotel Statler Due to the inability of the Uni- versity Club to provide adequate fa- cilities for the increasing number at- tending the meetings, the weekly Football Clinic and Luncheons spon- sored by the University of Michigan Club of Detroit, starting next Mon- day will be held in the small banquet hall on the ballroom floor of the Hotel Statler. These weekly "bull sessions" have been growing in popularity with an increasing number of alumni attend-' ing each week. More than 90 turned out the first Monday,* and the two meetings since then have drawn 114 and 150, respectively. Ray O. Courtright, assistant Var- sity football coach, will conduct the fourth clinic at 12:15 p. m. next Monday. He has had the job of scouting the Chicago team in all its games for this year, and, in addition to describing the fine points of Sat- urday's game, he will explain the special plays planned for that par- ticular contest. Mr. Courtright, who is freshman football coach, will also tell some- thing of the individual prospects on the frosh squad that will be available for next year's team. Plane Designed By Local Man Is Given Test Here The first test flight of a locally designed low-winged racing mono- plane occurred at 5:30 p. m. yester- day at the Ann Arbor Airport about three miles out South State Street. Powered with a five-cylinder 80- horsepower radial Genet, the ship ac- commodates two persons. It is be- lieved that the plane will develop a cruising speed of 140 miles per hour and a top speed of 165 miles per hour. It was designed by Tom Brun- dage of the Ann Arbor Municipal Airport. A specials feature is the flaps fas- tened to the bottom of the wings to slow up the landing speed, which permits the ship to land on a very short runway. Gold Quotations Fixed 18 Cents HioherToday WASHINGTON, Oct. 26.--GP)-The Administration pushed the price of newly mined gold still higher today, supported by a formal opinion from Attorney General Homer S. Cum- mings upholding the legality of the method chosen for carrying out Pres- ident Roosevelt's new monetary pol- icy. The gold quotation was fixed at $31.54, or 18 cents higher than that of yesterday and 48 to 57 cents above the price on the London market. Nevertheless, news from the com- modity markets brought the first re- verse in the campaign for a higher general price level to be achieved by artificially raising the price of gold. Wheat fell off 2 cents to 3 cents a bushel, cotton 50 to 65 cents a bale and leading stocks $1 to $3 a share. Officials, however, expressed no dis- couragement. A steady continuation of the upward trend of Monday and Tuesday was hardly to have been ex- pected, they said. '{ -o * Feel the neat smooth- neSs of their hand tai- lored and hand fitted linings.
