Newman took the ball on his 40- yard line and returned it to State's 35. Two plays lost a yard, and Mich- igan was penalizea li yards for hold- ing. Newman's pass to Everhardus was incomplete, but both teams were offside on the play. Petoskey took a pass from Newman for 23 yards. Newman ran the ball out of bounds and then passed to Fay for 22 yards on the fourth down. Everhardus went four yards from the 9-yard line, but Fay was stopped dead. Regeczi took the ball to the 1-yard line. Both teams were offside on a quarterback sneak, and on the next play Newman juggled the pass from Bernard for no gain. The ball went to State on downs, and Eliowitz kicked to the 35-yard line. Petoskey was unable to reach Newman's bad pass. Michigan took time out. On the next play, New- man cut through the field for a first down on the 20-yard line. Regeczi made three, but Petoskey failed to gain on an end-around play, and Fay lost two on a triple pass. Then Williamson took a pass from Newman and reached the 1- yard line. Fay scored on the next play and Newman kicked the point. Michigan 14, State 0. Kowalik, Oliver, Ward, and Aus- tin went in for Marcovsky, Regeczi, Williamson, and Damm. Reynolds replaced Kowatch. Everhardus' kick was over the goal, and State took the ball on the 20-yard line. Monnett made one. Jones' pass was inter- cepted by Bernard on the 25-yard line. Everhardus was stopped by Brunette; Newman made one; and Fay added four on a sneak. New- man's pass just grazed Petoskey',, fingers on the 1-yard line, and State got the ball on downs. Monnett made three yards through the line, but his two incomplete pass- es got a five-yard penalty. Eliowitz kicked out of bounds on Michigan's 42. Armstrong replaced Reynolds. Westover replaced Newman, as State took time out. Demarest replaced Terlaak. Fay got a yard on a spin- ner. Everhardus got four at right tackle. Fay hit the same spot for four more, but Michigan was penal- ized 15 for holding. Everhardus kicked, and Monnett was knocked out of bounds on the 35-yard line. The half ended Michigan 14, State 0. THIRD QUARTER Petoskey's first kickoff was called back as State was not ready. Van- dermeer brought the second to his 26-yard line. Monnett gained a yard. A pass, Monnett to V a n d e rmeer, w a s incomplete, but both teams :c....:..: were offside. Mon- nett gained four at Petoskey's end on a double spinner. Eliowitz' pass, on a fake kick, was incomplete. Elio- witz' kick rolled to - FAy' Michigan's 19- yard line when Fay and Newman let it fall between them.I Fay hit right tackle for two yards. Regeczi made two on a double pass. Regeczi then kicked to State's 30- yard line. Kowatch was smothered at the line by Kowalik; but he sliced past Williamson for five yards on the next play. Williamson intercepted Jones' pass on State's 45-yard line. Heston ran across the field for two yards. Michigan was penalized five yards when two passes were incomplete. Regeczi kicked short, out of bounds on State's 22-yard line. Damm smothered Eliowitz for a two-yard loss. A lateral, Jones to Kowatch, netted seven. Eliowitz kicked to Michigan's 34-yard line, Newman advancing the ball to the 44. Michigan took time out. Regeczi ran out of bounds for nine yards and then made it first down through the line. A pass, Newman to Petoskey, was good for 12 yards and another first down. Newman was stopped at right tackle. He passed 20 yards to Williamson on the next play and Williamson ran 12 yards to the 5-yard line. Armstrong sub- stituted for Kowatch. Fay slid off left guard for two yards but Re- geczi was stopped at the line. Re- geczi hit the line again but was six inches short. Fay failed to score through left tackle, and the ball wentI to State on downs. Newman made a beautiful catch of Eliowitz' kick on the 50-yard line and returned the ball to the 15-yard line. Heston swept around right end for the touchdown. The entire Michigan line was holding on the try for point and a second at- tempt from the 25-yard line failed. Michigan 20, State 0. Ward, Everhardus, Cantrill, Aus- tin, Westover, Savage, Ford and Oli- ver were substituted in the lineup for Williamson, Heston, M a r c o v s k y, Damm, Newman, Kowalik, Bernard, and Regeczi. FOURTH QUARTER Everhardus hit the line again for four yards. He netted three' yards on another try. Lay was injured on the play and State took time out. Everhardus went off left end from the 31-yard Iline, cut back, and ran for a touchdown, eluding seven State tacklers. He missed the try for point. This was the last scoring play in the game.
