All freshman textbooks are in demand, according to Zeldon S. Cohen, '33, who is in charge of the store. Specialized books which are needed are those in law, philosophy, psychology, and physics. "We have received an unprecedent- ed demand for these books, " Cohen said. "Our demand has greatly out- weighed our supply, and we earnest- ly request students interested in sell- ing books at advantageous prices to contact with us Cohen explained the procedure of sale, which provides that the seller bring the books to the store -at Lane Hall, and mark them with his price. The store will endeavor to sell them, deducting 10 per cent of the sale price to coyer cost of the transaction. "Under our plan we firmly believe that it is possible for the seller to re- ceive more for his books and for the buyer to pay less," Cohen said. "The fact that we have had such an en- couraging response - even lar ger than last year - tends to indicate that this co-operative plan is a need- ed institution on the campus." Sales will. continue throughout this and next week and the store will be open not only in the daytime, but from 7 to 9 p. X. as well, .; is an- nounced. Commercial Group Hits Government's Unethical Business Washington, Sept. 26.-(AP) Spe- cial advantages enjoyed by the gov- ernment in competing with private business are stressed by the United States Chamber of Commerce in a report it describes as "another step in the chamber's effort to remove the government from buisness." The national business organiza- tion said these efforts "will be con- tinued until the chamber's objective is accomplished." The report was filed by a com- mittee headed by Henry D. Sharp of Providence. R. I. It said in part: "The government's operations can be and are carried on without regard to the elements of profit or loss. which are unavoidable factors in private business. The government can and does furnish funds which are employed, largely f r o m taxation, without requiring or expecting pay- ment of interest, let alone dividends, out of business. "It is obvious, therefore, that in any field of business in which the government chooses to enter, private bus ine ss will be proportionately eliminated-not by reason of the rel- ative merit of the two forms, but be- cause of the unfair advantages re- ceived by the former." Doak's statement was issued after. a conference with the president. Recently the leaders of more than 20 railway labor organizations and brotherhoods requested President Hoover to oppose suggestions for fur- ther reductions in railway wages. Doak said today the President had expressed to the railway labor lead- ers at that time the view that, the question of reduction be laidaside until at least Jan. 1. Doak's statement follows in full: "In the matter of the railway wage discussion now going on, the Presi- dent last week expressed the, view, both to the representativestof rail- way labor and to the leading railway presidents who have conferred with him, that he felt it is desirable that question should be deferred at the present time. "The present agreement does not expire until Feb. 1 next. The Presi- dent's view that it might be well agreed to defer further discussion until the end of the year, as the gen- eral economic -situation would be much clearer at that time, and ne- gotiations could be based on a better realization of the actual circum- stances existing."
