Starting something new in the line
of freshman activities phis year, the
freshman women will hold a mass
meeting at 4:15 p. -m. Thursday in!
the League Ballroom.
'T'he meeting, according to Helen
DeWitt, '33, president orf the League,
is for the purpose of discussing
freshman activities for the year.
Since the idea of having the regular
Freshman Girls Pageant has been
abandoned, it is necessary that the
women choose some new line of ac-
tivity for the year, Miss DeWitt said.
The Freshman Girls Pageant has
been a tradition among the freshman
women for a number of years but
because of the expense involved it
has been decided not to hold it this
year.
An executive committee of five will
be elected at the meeting to carry
out any plans made by the women.
If no definite plans are offered then
it will be left to the committee to de-
cide on some class activity.

The first open house ever to be
given by a dormitory on this campus
will be held from 4 to 6 p. m. Friday
at Martha Cook Residence.
Formal invitations have been sent
to the house presidents of Mosher-
Jordan, Betsy Barbour, helen New-
berry, Adelia Cheever, and Alumnae
House. Representatives from Martha
Cook are also appearing at the
house meetings to personally extend
their invitation.
"This idea of a dormitory open
house was inaugurated due to a de-

made everyone suit-minded. There
are dozens of suits around campus
with swagger two-third length and
full-length coats; there are quanti-
ties of short hip length jackets of the
soft so-called dressmaker type. One
of the latter we noticed was in black
broadcloth with a short fitted jacket,
leg o' mutton sleeves and a soft
peter pan collar of white lapin that
tied demurely beneath the chin.
A new linen suit with a three-
quarter length coat, recently brought
out, has the versatility of almost an
entire week-end wardrobe. The sport
coat is considered chic and new to
wear over lightrsummer dresses
whether of sport or street type, and
the fashion of light coats over dark
dresses is also gaining importance.

One of the warniings that should'
be posted on the broad and happy
highway to feminine charm is, "Be-
ware of powder face."
"Powder face" sometimes takes on
the appearance of a slightly scaly
condition. or perhaps a heavy,
"enameled" look, but in any event
it gives an unnatural appearance
which detracts from the beauty and
youthfulness of any woman. It does
not draw distinctions between young
and old, between rich and poor but
it is prevalent among all ages and
classes.
The cause of "powder face," in al-f
most every case, is the improper se-
lection of powder and its improper
application to those portions of the
face which require powder alone.'
Even the very best quality powders
lose their value unless applied in the
right places and proportions.
The following method for starting
a correct make-up has been sug-
gested. After tying the hair back
with a wide band in order to keep

excess cream and powder out of the
hair, apply a very light film of good
base-crneam. The powder is then
dusted from the base of the throat
to the forehead. The powder must
not be rubbed on with the puff but
must be applied lightly and in excess
and then removed with a soft pow-
der brush. The back and sides of the
neck are also important since the
new necklines are so revealing.
