Prof. Howard S. Ellis, of the eco-
nomics department, end Lawrence
Preuss, of the political science de-
p)artmxent, haLve been announced re-
cipients of Social Science Reserve
Council fellowships for the coming
Year,
Professor Ellis ivill leave Ann
Arbor early next autumn for Vienna,
wthere he intends to study the gen-
eral resu tlts of the whole socialization
program that has been pursued
there. Newspapers, working condi-
tions, and housing are included in
the fields he will investigate. He ex-
pects to be absent from the Ujniver-
sity for approximnately a year.
Mr. Preuss intends to leave Ann
Arbor sometimne in June, and expects
to be gone about 15 months. He will
study the international aspects of
political crimes, investigating con-
ditions and doing research in Ger-~
many, Austria, Switzerland, and
Franice.
Prof. Robert T. Crane, formerly of
the political science department, is
the permanent director of the Social
'Science Research Council, which hw.
granted the awards. The Council is
organized to, sponsor research in the
social sciences through fellowships
and ggrants in aid. It is located in
New York City.
