Lambda Chi Alpha nosed out the defending champions, Theta Chi, yesterday afternoon by two points to take the fraternity swimming championship this year with a 22- point tot al. The former titleholders followed with 20, while Alpha Kap- pa Lambda and Delta Kappa Epsi- lon tied for third place honors with 13 points apiece. The new champions took the first event, the 200-yard relay, setting up a new Intramural record in that race. The Snyder brothers,. Schau- bel and Nichol swam the distance in 1:49.1 to start things off their way. R. A. Snyder added a first place in the 50-yard back 'stroke event, swimming the race in 36.1 seconds, while Schaubel contributed another first by taking the 220-yard free style race in 2:52.3. r Lambda Chi's other points were mWade by R. I Snyder, fourth in the back stroke event, and third in the 50-yard free style; and Schaubel won fourth place in the diving event. Theta Chi's points were 1osted by °vinning the 150-yard medley race, Miller, Hartwell, and Williams crossing the finish with the time of 1:37.8. Hartwell also won the 50- yard breast stroke number n 37 sec- onds tieing with Gould of Sigma Chi; and Townsend led the field in the 100-yard free style with a time of one minute and four sec- onds. Some more points were made by Hartwell taking second in the 220. Stokely of Phi Gamma Delta won the 50-yard free style event with 26 seconds racing time, while Nntzof Tau Delta Phi won the diving event with points total of 51.4. This latter mark fell way short of the existing record of 81.6. The feature of the meet outside of the new record set up in the 220-yard relay, was the narrow margin b which Theta dhi failed to hold their title. The4 number one man in th back stroke eve't. Miller, arrived after that race had been held and won with the time of 36.1 seconds. He entered the pool and swam that event by himself, clocking 32 seconds, but his time could not be taken as official. The points would have taken the meet.
