URDAY, MARCH 19,1932 THE MICHIGAN DAILY PAGE Grid Candidates WOLVES ITO MEET STATE 1INTURNEY Seventeen Wolverine Grapplers to Take Part in A.A.U. I Tilt; M.S.C. Favored. Michigan's Varsity wrestling team will have the opportunity tonightI to avenge the one point defeat handed them by State early in the season when the two teams meet in the Michigan A. A. U. State Wrestling Championships at De- troit. Although entries will be there from all over the state, the Wolver- ines and the Spartans will be the favorites to battle it out for the team championship. Last year, the East Lansing aggregation captured the team title and will be out to du- plicate the victory tonight. By virtue of the early season win, the Spartans will rule as slight fa- vorites, but the Wolves, entered in the State meet for the first time in their history, rate on a par with State. Nine Varsity and eight freshmen grapplers will constitute the Mich- igan entries. Captain Dougovito will again be the headliner in the 175 pound division as Reif will not enter the meet. In the heavyweight division, Stoddard ranks as one of the outstanding candidates for in- dividual honors. Wilson, wrestling at 165 pounds, and Art Mosier, who won the 155- pound class championship last year, are also favorites to finish well. Keen has two entries in the 135 pound class, with Blair Thomas and Freedman carrying the Mich- igan colors. Oakley, 126 pound di- vision, and Landrum and Fiero in the 118 pound class, complete the Varsity roster. Coach Kelly has . several out- standing freshmen entered with Hildebrand considered as one of the best in the same division with Dougovito. Rubin, 118 pound, Kop- lin, 126 pound, Stow, 135 pounds, Landwehr, 145, Duxbury, at 155. Parker, 165 pound division, and Walter, heavyweight, complete the yearling entries. Northwestern H a 1 f Takes Second Plunge at Matrimonial Line EVANSTON, Ill., March 18.- Special to The Daily)-Not to be discouraged by the annulment of his marriaga to Mis 1 nerin Major less than a year ago, Ken- neth Meenan, Northwestern's star halfback, appeared on the campus this week with his very latest wife, the former Md'iss Sean Rogers. Both Meenan and his bride have been suspended for one semester in accordance with the Northwestern marriage ruling, which states that when two stu- dents are married without their parents' consent they are auto- matically expelled for one semes- ter. ~-- YEARLINCS ENGRgEr Wolverine Track Team to Face Stiff Opposition in Last Encounter of Season. Coach Doherty, freshman track mentor, predicts a close meet for this afternoon when the yearling thinclads meet the Ililnois fresh- men in the last telegraphic meet of the indoor season. Michigan defeated Illinois 454 to 37% earl- ier in the season in a triangular meet, while Ohio was beating both teams. The Illini will be considerably strengthened by the return to com- petition of Kennicott, star quarter- miler. With Kennicott in the line- up Illinois has high hopes of cap- turing five points in both the 440 and the mile relay, but Coach Do- herty expects his distance men, who have lately shown great improve- ment, to score heavily enough to off-set any loss of points in the quarter-mile. Michigan will be handicapped by the loss of Schell, crack broad- jumper, who has been ill, but the other Michigan stars are in good condition and expect to win. Coach Doherty will stake his hopos on Ward in five events, high and low hurdles, 60 yd. dash, high jump, and shot put. Pantlind is expected to score points for Michigan in the hurdle events.
