THE MICHIGAN . AI LY YEHUDI MENUHIN, OUTSTANDING BOY VIOLINIST, TO PLAY HERE THURSDAY THISM CLOSES AT 3 P. M SI By Jerry E. Rosenthal The outstanding boy violinist of the era will be heard Thursday eve- ning in Hill auditorium when Yeh- udi Menuhin, who, for the past five years has attracted comment every- where from critics, appears on thel eighth program of the Choral Un-I ion Concert series. Menuhin, five years ago, first re.- ceived nation-wide attention when he played Beethoven's violin con- certo with the New York Symphony orchestra. He was received then as I an exceptional child prodigy and now, a thtie ale of 15, he is lookedj upon a a mature artist with the techniqie of a veteran. Critics all over the United States have acclaimed him as having "ar-, rived," especially in the East. I Olin Downes, of the New York Times, stated in his review of the concert given by the youthful artist Monday ini New York that "he set at rest those who were skeptical aboilt his lasting qualities or growth... at the end the audience rushed in droves to the stage, and the hour for encores was on." Yehudi Menuhin was born in New York, Jan. 22, 1917. At the age of three he was given a tiny violin and the next year, upon being given a child's size instrument, be- gari to take lessons. At seven, he appeared as soloist with the San Francisco Symphony orchestra and in the following'year gave a recital at the Manhattan Opera house. When nine years old, he played with the Lamoureux orchestra in Paris, where he was acclaimed and when he returned to this country his success was made. Besides the concert to be given in Ann Arbor, Menuhin will appear on other programs throughout the country. Colonel White Reviews R.O.T.C. Unit at Gym" Col. A. H.
