Second Macbeth Speech Given
Last Night by Professor
Price.
Prof. Hereward T. Price of the
English department gave his second
talk on Macbeth yesterday over the
University-of-the-air program. This
talk was given at the requests of
the Eastern high school of Larsing
and the Elsie Public schools.
"Where Did 'our Nickel Come
From?" will be the subject of a'talk
to be given today by Orman F. But-
ler, professor of Latin and curator
of archaeological collections. Miss
Butler will trace the history of the
American'coin from those discover-,
ed in archaeological excavations.
"The Planet Pupiter" will be the
topic on which Hazel Marie Losh,
instructor and research assistaLt in
the department of astronomy, will
speak on Thursday, Dec. 17.
Prof. William H. Hobbs, head of
the geology department, will talk
on Meteorological and Altitude
Instruments" on Friday, Dec. 18.
Professor Hobbs is director of the
University of Michigan expeditions
to Greenland, and will illustrate his
remarks by references to his re-
search in determining weather con-
ditions and storm predictions at
the Greenland station.
The last program of the year will
be broadcast on Sunday, Dec. 20.

Hayden Will Lecture
on Pacifc Question
Professor Joseph R. Hayden, of
the Political Science departmen't,
will deliver today the second of a
series of two lectures on "Inter-!
national Relations in the Pacific"
which he is giving 'under auspices
of the Detroit Women's Council for
Education in International Affairs,
and the Detroit -Council for Adult
Education.
Detroit Judge Aids,
in Clearing Docket
Judge Joseph A. Moynihan of De-
troit came to Ann Arbor yesterday
to aid Circuit Judge George W.
Sample in clearing the court docket.
,JudgeMoynihan heard only chan-
cery cases while Judge Sample pre-
sided at .a continuatiOn of law cases.
Criminal work was reoumed by
Judge Sample late in the afternoon.

HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT PROFESSOR
TO HOLD COURSE ON ROAD TYPES
University Offers Course in Response to Demands for Study
From,County Engineers and Materials Producers.,

Prof. W. J. Emmons of the High-
way department of the school of
engineering will conduct a short
intensive course in bituminous road
types during the coming holiday
vacation from Dec. 28 to Jan. 2.
The course is being offered by the
University in response tonumerous
demands for such a study from
county engineers and materials
producers. It will include a study of
the various ,tars, road oils, cut-
backs, and asphalts, and detailed
consideration of their uses.
Mornings will be devoted to lec-
tures and the afternoons will be
spent in laboratories in order to
acquaint those attending with bi-
tuminous properties and their uses.

A comprehensive file of refer-
ences describing recent develop-
ments in low cost bituminous roads
will be available in the Transpor-
tation library, and should be re-
viewed thoroughly by those inte'r-
ested in the course. No University
credit will be given and no previous
experience or training is required,
for the course.
Those planning to attend this
course have been asked to make.
their intentions known as soon as
possible.

Howard S. Ellis, assistant profes-
sor of economics, has been inform-

for the degree of Doctor of Philo-
sophy he has been awarded two ofj
