----- ------ ULULI IULII UU U I American Geographical Associa- tion Will Have Annual Meet in Ypsilanti. WILL VISIT ANN ARBOR Faculty Members to Read Papers at Discussions and Banquets. This year the annual meeting of the American Geographical asso- ciation will" be held in Ypsilanti, Dec. 30 and 31. Papers will be read by many of the faculty of the geo- graphy department which will be followed by discussions and ban- quets in the evenings. The Board of Regents has in- vited the members attending to be the guests of the University at a luncheon to be held Dec. 30 at the League. In the afternoon, following the luncheon, they will examine Prof. Louis C. Carpinski's collection of maps, make a tour of inspection of the exhibits to be offered by the geography department, and then go to the Clements Memorial library to view the collection of early American maps there, The American Geographical as- ,sociation is made up of- more than two hundred of the leading geo- graphers of the country. It is an honorary organization, so'mewhat like the Explorer's club. Six mem- bers of the faculty, including Presi- dent Ruthven have been honored by, election to it. . The following members of the geography department will read papers at the meeting: Prof. Ken- neth C. McMurray, "An Interpreta- tion of Airplane Photographs of Isle Royale"; Prof. Robert B. Hall, "The Settlement in the Yamato Basin, Japan"; Prof. Stanley C. Dodge, "Roads in Relation to the Economic Domain of an Urban Center"; Prof. Preston E. James, "A Geographical Interpretation of the Coffee Lands of Middle Brazil"; Henry M. Kendall, "Fairs and Mar. kets in the Department of Gers, France"; Margaret L Fead, "The Development of the Cartographical Representation of Cities". In ,addition Professor William H. Hobbs, head of the geology depart- ment, will present a paper entitled, "Wilkes Land Rediscovered," and Prof. Louis C. Karpinski of the de- partment of Mathematics will read a paper, "Significant Maps of Mich- igan."
