Smith Williamson ..... g......i arshii With Northiwes tern scheduled to invade the Field House at 7:30 to-J morrow night for a return game,, Michigan will get a chance to knock off the leaders in the present Big Ten title race. After taking a 22-16 defeat from Ohio Stat: last night, Coach Veenker's quintet is still in a position to cause plenty ofwo r ab u th C nf e c , a d. playing on its own floor stands a good chance of sending tc Wild- cats home with their first set-back of thie season. Even after the stinging defeat which the Buckeyes handed the Maize and Blue last night, Michigan cannot be counted out of the run- ning for the championship, since the caliber of the competition in the Conference indicates that the title-winner will lose its share of the games. A win over Northwest- ern will go far toward reinstating the Wolves in the race, and the invaders will know that they have been in a battle when the final gun sounds tomorrow. Star Forwards Hfere. Coach Lomborg will have two of the best forwards in the Big Ten to center his attack around tomo- row night in Ried and Peiff, while the rest of his team is capable of more than holding its own in al- most any kind of competition. In the first meeting of the two teams Reiff and Smith shared high scor- ing honors with eight points each. A win tomorrow night will give the invaders a real flying start toward the crown which the Boiler- makers seem sure to lose, whil should the Wolverines come out of the battle on the long end of the score, they will stand a good chance ' of pulling up toward the leaders. - It is pi-babie that Coach Veker will again put Eeveland into the opening line up in place of Petrie against the Wildcats, but this will1 be the only change in the front which the Maize and Blue will present. Old Lineup Back. This line-up will be the same that faced Northwestern in the sec- ond Conference game of the season and should prove effective in stop- ping the brilliant thrusts of the in- vaders. No matter what five play- ers Coach Veenker picks to start, the quintet which takes th floor will be fighting for its life-or at least in the race this year, and may be counted upon to follow Michi- gan tradition and never give up until the final minute of play has ticked away. Most of the regulars are adapting different styles that are peculiar to them- selves, and they wiil receive the lion's share of the coaching until they have found themselves. Stoppers and the different br.eaks are the center of drills now that the Big Ten season is in the offing and all of the stock positions are being, concentrated on. Special drills will be in order before each 'meet as nearly every set of oppon- ents have a different attack and a defense must be built up to offset the probable favorite holds. When the Spartans invade the Wolverine territory in the last meet before the examinations they will bring what is considered only a fair team of wrestlers, and the Michi- gan maulers should be able to take them into camp without much diffi- culty.
