President and Mrs. lRuthven will be at home from 4 to 6 o'clock on
the first two Sunday afternoons of each month to members of the
faculties, their friends, and other residents of Ann Arbor.
Doctor Peterson's Portr.ait: The presentation of this portrait to the
University on behalf of the present and past staff members of Doctor
Peterson's service will take place in the Lydia Mendelssohn theatre on
Wednesday, January 14, 3:15 p. m. The Faculty, students and public
are cordially invited to tho ceremeny.

Organ Recital: Palmar Chrstlan, University organist, will give the
following program, Wednesday, January 14, at 4:15 o'clock. The general
public with the exception of small children is invited to attend:

Students, College of Literature, Science, and the Arts: The commit-
tee on the marking system, made up of members of this faculty, invites
communications from any interested student. Arguments for maintain-
ing, modifying, or discontinuing our present system will be presented to
the committee if sent to my office. W. R. Humphreys.
University Women: All women students who intend to change houses
at the end of this semester should advise the house head and the office
of the Dean of Women of this intention by Saturday, January 17 (four
weeks before the beginning of the second semester). Alice C. Lloyd.
Presidents of League, Dormitory, and Sorority houses: All December
signing out slips are due at the Undergraduate office of the Women's
league before January 15.
Detroit Unemployment conference: Registrations for the Studen't
Conference on Unemployment under the direction of Prof. Paul H.
Douglas of Chicago university, in Detroit, Michigan for January 16, 17,
and 18, must be made at the Student Christian association by Wednes-
day of this week at 3 p. m.
EVENTS TODAY
An Exhibition of one hundred American and European Prints is
on view in the North and South Galleries, Alumni Memorial hall. The
galleries are open week days fro n9yuntil 5 and Sundays from 1:30
until 5. The exhibition closes Janvkary 24.
Graduate Chemical Engineers: The monthly luncheon of the grad-
uate students and staff of the department of chemical engineering will
be held in room 3201 East Engineering building. The speaker will be
Dr. G. C. Forrester, of the DuPont company.
Senior Engineers: Class dues will be collected Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday of this week, in front of Room 217, West Engineering bldg.
There will also be a member of the announcement committee there to
take orders. Your name will not appear in the announcement this year
unless dues are paid in full.
'Physics Colloquium: Mr. Sherman L. Gerhard will talk on "Thermo-
chemical Constants obtained from Spectroscopic Data," at 4:15 in room
1041, East Physics building.
Undergraduate Mathematical club meets at 8 p. m., in room 3011
Angell hall. There will be election of officers and Mr. Norman E.
Steenrod will read a paper entitled, "The Concept of Truth in Mathe-
matics."

Alpha Nu: Election of officers will take place at the meeting this
evening. All members are urged to be present.
Adelphi huse of Representatives will conduct a parliamentary drill
session at its regular meeting tonight. Nominations will be made for
second semester House officers. Details of the debate scheduled for
next week with the engineering society will be discussed. The 'Ensian
picture will be taken some day this week.
Theta Sigma Phi meets at 8:15 p. m. in the League building.
Pi Tau Pi Sigma: Regular meeting at 8:00 p. in. in room 306, Michi-
gan union.
Tau Beta Pi: Dinner meeting at 6:15 p. m. at the Union.
Zeta Phi Eta: Important meeting at 7:30 p. m. All members please
be present-no excuse accepted. Pledges meet at 7:30 p. m.
Deutscher Zirkel: Meeting tonight at 8:00 in the Michigan eaL in

This band is to play for the hockey games and extra basketball
games. It will rehearse each Tuesday night in preparation for a concert

reserve band. The above named must play in this band before getting
into the Varsity next year. This is purely training organization for
4;1 those interested in making the Varsity band next year.
COMING EVENTS
Third Frcshniani Lecture in Hygiene for Mien will be given in Water-
man gymnasium, Thursday and Friday, January 15 and 16, at 3, 4 and
5 p. m. This requirement includes all freshmen in the regular physical
training classes, athletic squads and others that have been excused from
