PINNEO 1S STATE STAR Michigan's basketball team brokej through a two-season loosing streak and downed the Spartans of State to the tune of 32 to 22 last night. With a floor attack that is danger- ous and passing that was perfectC the Wolverines opened up and dis- played a type of game that had been held back in the opening game - ith the Western Teachers. The game was hard fought and unusually even until the Army eleven finally flashed out and took the game, 6-0. The geme was played for the sake of eharity and the pre-game figures estimated that the unem- ployment fund would kVe enlarged by some $700,000. The seats sold at a dollar a yard and the stadium was pra.ictilly filled, insuring the success of the game financially. Beside the charity element of this game, and of far more importance in the sport world was the renewal of athletic relations of the coun- try's army and naval academies that have been broken since 1926. The spirit of rivalry is always at its peak when these schools clash and consequently the game yester- day was marked with unending en- thusiasm on both sides for the entire four periods of the tilt. Cheers and songs were hurled across the gridiron as fiercely as the 22 players on the teams threw themselves into the fray, and neither team could doubt that it had a strong contingent behind it pulling for a win. This spirit contributed undoubt- edly to the even battle that the Army mule and the Navy goat staged the entire game. For three quarters the opposing teams push- ed back and forth on the field, threatening drives failing short of scores as neither eleven chalked up a tally in its favor. Although most of the play was in Navy's territory it was in the main limited to that section of the field between the 50 (Continued on Page 7) MINIATURE GOLF as lc_-c: A loving cup will go ~o the winner and special prizes The qualifying round of the w be n r 1ev qualifying miniature golf tournamen ndsr ai the direction of the .ntramural de- -- partment will get under way with qualifying rouncds being -held Men-! day, Tuesday, and Wednesday of Swimming-Theta Xi vs. Phi next week from 4 to 11 - clock at Kappa Psi; Chi Phi vs. Delta Kap- the Bob-O-Link indoc } se on jn Lon ^:Dt Huron St. ' s:. n at 7:30.
