;FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5, 1930 THE MICHIGAN DAIL Y PAGE SEVEN MATMEN TO MEET HURON CRAPPLERS Ypsilanti to Face Wolverines Here December 6 in First Clash of Season. With Ypsilanti Normal coming here Tuesday, December 9 to fur-, nish the opening opposition of the season Coach Cliff Keen is rapidly rounding his varsity mat squad in- to shape for this inaugural en- counter with the Hurons- Despite the loss of four of last year's Con- ference champions the Wolverine mentor looks forward to a good year in Big Ten circles, as a large squad of new candidates furnish ample opportunity for development. Several of the new men are showing unmistakable s i g n s of ability, lacking only experience to make them capable grapplers. In addition, the men recently recruit- ed from the football team give Keen still a further ground from which to develop material. No cuts will be made until after the all- campus meet, December 16-18, at which time the present number of 50 will be cut down to 30 men. Five Veterans Back. Captain Auer, Stoddard, Benz, Woodward, and Aldinger are the five lettermen returning to furnish the nucleus for this year's team, and these men will be ably sup- ported by several promising new candidates. Sigwart, a sophomore, and Aldinger are the outstanding men in the 118 lb. class, while two sophomores, Otto and Cortes, and Bennett, a junior, are the outstand- ing wrestlers in the 125 lb. class. If Woodward can make the weight in the 135 lb. class the Wol- verines will be well represented, but there is a strong possibility that the veteran will be forced in- to the next class, and in this event Michigan's prospects will not look so good. Gridders to Wrestle. Benz will be the Wolverine main- sitay wrestling at 145 lbs., and the I stocky gridder should handle his matches in a capable manner. Power, Parker, and Heim , and Reif seem to be the leading candi- dates in the 155 and 165 lb. classes respectively, with three football men, Jordan, Morgan, and LaJeun- esse, being the most likely pros- pects in the 175 lb. division. Captain Auer, Grinnell, and Stod- dard will probably carry Michigan's colors in the unlimited class, and will render the Wolverines strong in heavyweight circles.
