While hockey at Michigan ha, never been :a major sport, a niew era; was forseen last. year when, to- wards the close of the season, the Wolverines were f ight~ing up from, behind to evcntually capture the champioiislip. Crowd; that far surpassied any that had ever pack- ed the Coliseum turned out for those -games, and tho thrills tl J, they received from those hard fought contests has assured large turnouts for this entire season. in addition to the interest that these games created on the cameos~, the addd attraction of anoh er stronq team should again lure lai-ge atten- dences to witness this year's games. '75 Turn Out. A decidled increase in the int'i est this year has been in evidence already, when approximately 75 men,, including freshmen,. turned out for the hockey meeting held last week in the Union. About 20 of these men are candidates for the Varsity team, and these include 1 last year's veterans and the mnen I, from the flashy squad of last sea- .son. It is likely that many of the Varsity candidates will be cut af- ter only a few drills, until the squad eventually numbers about 12.- Although hard hit by graduation in the loss of such stars as Captain Bryant, Hart, Joseph, and Nygard, several men from last year's fresh- men will make a strong bid to fill the gaps. Of these men Reid, Crossman, Williams, Sindle, Gri- char, and Hildner are almost sure Of gettirng places on the regular squad, unless some better players turn up among the new candidates. These men, with last season's vet- erans, Captain Schlanderer, Lan- gen, Courtis, and Tompkins, will form the nucleus of the. Wolverine team:~ Play at Buffalo. No games are definitely schedul- ed as yet, inasmuch as the Con- ference meeting is niot until the first week in Deemnber. After that, SIN TON-' 11lzhmI INDEPENDENT COMPETITION.
