NOTICES
To Members of the University Staff: The issuing of so-called "ac-
ceptances" for amounts of salary not yet payable, has reached a point
where it has been unfortunate in a number of individual cases and has
in general been carried far beyond the purpose for which it was designed,
namely, to meet an occasional serious emergency. As a result the
Deans, in conference, have approved the following regulations:
After the month of October, in any academic year, acceptances will
be issued by the Business Office only on written recommendation of the
Dean of the School or College in which the staff member's work lies, or
on written recommendation of the Head of the University division or
group when this work lies outside a School or College.
It is hoped that emergencies may be met thus without hardship to
anyone, and that the habitual use of the acceptance-which is expensive
and in general disadvantageous- will disappear.
Shirley W. Smith.
Lost and Found Articles: A large number of coats, hats, books,
umbrellas, and miscellaneous articles have been turned over to the Lost i
and Found Department in the Business Office, Room 3, University Hall.
Such articles may be claimed by proper identification at the above office.
Shirley W. Smith, Vice-President and Secretary.
Committee Appointment, College of Literature, Science and the Arts:
The Committee recently authorized by the Faculty of the College of
Literature, Science, and the Arts who are to study the marking system
has been constituted as follows: Dean W. R. Humphreys, Chairman,
Professor I. L. Sharfman, Professor Peter Field, Professor J. N. Lincoln,
Professor A. E. Woodhead.
John R. Effinger.
To the Presidents of Sororities' and Fraternities: You are requested
to file a list of the members and pledges of your fraternity for the first
semester in the Office of the Dean of Students, Room 2, University Hall,
on or before November 22, on a printed form to be secured from that
office. J. A. Bursley, Dean of Students.
