SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 1930 9 THE MICHIGAN D A I L Y PAGE lb WOLHES TE Michigan Favored to Win First Place Honors Over Level Course at Urbana. OHIO ALSO CONSIDERED Harriers from Illinois, Ohio State, and Michigan match strides this morning in a triangular meet over the course at Urbana with the starter's gun scheduled to start the men on their way at 10:30. Cap- tain Fitzgibbons' Wolverines rank as a very slight favorite to defeat the Indians and Buckeyes, and most of this margin is conceded the Hoytmen on the strength of their victory over the strong Michigan State team last Saturday. .The Illinoiscontingent of thin- clads will be led by Captain Evans, who ran ninth in last year's meet, while Ohio will b captained by their ace Hanover who took third position in the meeting last season. Both of these squads are strong, and figure to push the Wolverines hard for winning laurels. The lev- elness of the Illinois five-mile course as contrasted with the hilly aspect of their own course is a big factor in the establishment of the Michigan squad as favorites. Illinois Looks Strong. Illinois was faced with a large hole left by graduation a the be- ginning of the year, and conse- quently a number of new men have had to be developed, but in prac- tice trials the Indians have been turning in creditable times so they cannot by any means be counted out. Their entry list includes Cap- tain Evans, Carlock, Petefish, Rob- erts, Gould, Woolsey, Line, De- inarest, and Turnipseed, and with these men running over their own course the Illini aggregation must be given strong consideration for first place honors. Hanover ranks as one of the fav- orites for first place among the in- dividuals, and together with Evans, and Austin, the star Wolverine ha-. rier, should stage a pretty race for the winning laurels. The Buckeye leader heads a strong squad which includes Heintz, Billie, Moorhead, White, Littler, Johnson, Halzenber- ger, Warner, Hart, Durigg, Augen- stein, and Fallen. Michigan Has Ten Mein. The Michigan cross country ar- tists are captained by Fitzgibbons with nine men making up the squad in addition to the Wolver- ine leader. Austin, Wolfe, Howell, Crawford, Hill, Feustal, Bedenik, Klahn, and Smith comprise the Maize and Blue entry list. They are in excellent condition, and with the race layed out over a course con- siderably easier than their own should best both of their rivals. However the race cannot be count- ed in the bag for any of the con- tending teams as the work of the entire group can discount the star performance of an individual star.
