FOR FELLOWSHIPSi Miss Parry of Has Detailed Dean's Office Information on Awards. SEVENTEEN AVAILABLE Fellowships Cover Many Fields of Study in This Country and in Europe. Many graduate women on this' campus are eligible to receive fel- lowships which are very much worth while, according to Miss Jeanette Perry, of the Dean of Wo- men's office, who is in charge of student loans. She has detailed in- formation on many of them which she will be glad to give to anyone Who is interested.I In general the fellowships range I from $1500 to $2000, and cover many fields of study. Advanced graduate standing is usually re- quired, and certain definite obliga- tions are incurred by any woman who accepts one. The American Association of University women has charge of about fifteen fellow- ships which they award to appli- cants they deem eligible. Some of these fellowships are designed for work abroad, some for foreign women students in Amer- ica, and some for research where- ver the recipient desires. Certain of them may be awarded only to women in a designatedesection of the United States and others may be used only in certain universi- ties.c In addition to those offered through the A. A. U. W., there is a fellowship awarded by Pi Lambda Theta, honorary fraternity for wo- men in education, which is given to some woman who is doing re- search in education. There is also an available fellowship offerec by the alumnae association of Miss Abbott's School, which is handled by Pembroke College of Brown uni- versity, and which may be used for study in this country, abroad, or for independent research. CHINESE COUPLE ARE MARRIED IN LEAGUE CHAPEL Because the bride's gown had not yet arrived from China, the most unusual wedding held in the League this summer had to be postponed a day. Although the wedding was that of a Chinese couple, the civil service was used and performed by a justice of peace. The bride wept continuous- ly throughout the ceremony and the festivities afterwards. In the garden, pictures of the party were taken singly and i groups to send back to relatives and friends in China. Japanese and Americans as well as Chinese attended, and after the ceremony, had tea in the Alumni room of the League. Like the Little Church around the Corner, the Michigan League is a popular place to get married. Weddings range from elaborate af- fairs to very simple services. The Chapel is used for this purpose on an average of once a week, accord- DR. BELL ACCORDS HIGH STANDING TO PHYSICAL EDUCATION SCHOOL1 I the salaries that are paid to ex- perienced teachers range from $1,400 to $2,200. We have graduated about 75 students and are more than proud of our alumnae. Ger- maine Guiot, Director of Physical Education at the University of Southern California, is one of our graduates and so is Elizabeth Mur- phy, Physiotherapist at the Uni- versity of Michigan Hospital. Mrs. DeWindt, who was Ruth Dunbar, was supervisor of physical educa- sion in the Grand Rapids schools before her marriage. "The girls enrolled in the Phys- ical Education Department have always been leaders of their classes and we have a higher than average sl quota of senior honor students," said Dr. Bell. "The courses of study offered make a suitable foundation for advanced work in other lines, especially summer camp work, cor- rective gymnastics and p u b li c nealth work. There is one woman I'd like very much to do, Mrs. W. D. Hen- derson. "Among the schools of Physical Education in this country, the one that we have in the University of Michigan is rated as one of the finest by educational authorities," stated Dr. Margaret Bell, physician at the Health Service, and advisor to women in physical education, in a recent interview. "There are few prominent schools in this field," she continued, "and the University of Michigan since the founding of the Physical Edu- cation school in 1922 has supplied a growing demand for efficient teachers in this line." "At present there is a greater demand for teachers than there are graduates," she went on, "and Architectural Group Elects New Officers The election of new officers was the chief activity carried on at the first meeting of Alpha Gamma Gamma, women's national honor- ary professional architectural sor- ority, held Tuesday evening in the lounge room of the Women's League building.
