It furnishes the'i an opportunity for wholesomeii rec- reation and play with~ their fellow~ students. The use of building anti playing fields is entirely optional to the students, and they may be used without cost whatever to them. The Intramural building makes posible the physical better- ment of the undergraduate men and tends toward the realizationI of an ideal "athletics for all". The ne av Intramural. Provisions are made for train- ing rooms; store rooms, and office space; it *e s for 2200, with capac-j ityr for increasing to 4,000; the mhainl gymnasium. (on which floor are' four 'regulation basketball courts), 252 feet long and 107 feet wide; 14 lour-walled handball coon~s, each 20 by 40 feet; thirteen squas~h courts, 18 1-2 by 32 feet; a wrestiiing room 60x40 feet; a box- ing roi 36x46; the swimming pool 75 feet long by 35 feet wide; and the auxiliary gymnasium, 96 feet longb 45 'feet wide. Pro-} visions have been fnade for the seating of 1,500 spectators at swimming meets. The spectators are seated upon temporary bleach- ers in the auxiliary gymnasium. Use Outdoor Facilities. The outdoor playing space util- ized by the Intramural Department is loaned by the Athletic Associa-1 tion. Practically all the outdoor activities are conducted on SouthI Ferry Field, which comprises 12 acres of playing space. This in- cludes 6 speedball fields, i~2 dia- mands for playground baseball, anrd two diamonds for official baseball.
