Western Operator Charged With
Defrauding Pan-American
Stockholders.
CO-DEFENDANTS NAMED

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 11.-A suit
for an accounting charging Edward
L. Doheny, multimillionaire oil
operator, and the Richfield Oil Co.
with conspiring to defraud certain
stockholders of the Pan-American
Western Petroleum Co., was on file
in federal court here today.
John C. Blythe, of St. Louis, who
said he represented all class B
stockholders in Pan - American
Western, filed the suit Friday. He
charged Doheny sold a controlling,
interest in the company to Rich-I
field for a "wholly inadequate andc
unconscionable sum" because of aF
fear that the government would bet
victorious in an oil lease cancella-
tion suit affecting the Pan-Amer-
ican company. The cancellation
suit now is under consideration in
federal court here.
Besides Doheny and the Richfield
company, the suit names as co-de-
fendants the Petroleum Securities
Co., the Pan-American Western
Petroleum Co., J. C. Anderson, i
Fred Ritter, C. W. Smith and R. M.E
Sands.
An accounting was demanded to
determine the sum of money Doh-r
eny allegedly received from Rich-l
field for transfer of the controll-
ing 150,000 shares of stock andl
judgment was asked for the valuet
of the stock, placed at not less than !
$50 a share.r

BLACKSTONE, Va., Oct. 11.-The
official connection of Bishop James
Cannon, .r., with Blackstone Col-
lege for Girls, an institute he found-
ed and headed for almost a quarter
century, has been severed.
Coincident with an announce-
ment from the trustees of the col-
lege that the bishop had been re-
placed as president of their board
by N. P. Angle, of Rocky Mount, Va.,
the churchman Friday night made
public his letter of resignation as a
member and head of the board.
