Ideal weather went a long wiy yesterday afternoon iinmakingth Varsity practice matches full o pep and interest, but there wa.; more than mere weather in the conditions of this session, for the spirit and rivalry between the men made this practice period one 'real- ly worth while. First of all, Eddie Hammer de- cided that Colby Ryan had been beating too many of the players on the squad including himself, so he settled down to the task of winning back his number one place in right good order. This leaves Colby stil 1ahead of Brace but another match may or may not change that lineup still further. Whether it does or not makes little difference to Coach Johnstone for he realizes that as far as the first four or five men on his squad go they are about on a level, and that is a good level. Reindel, Clarke Wage Rattle. Just to bear out the confidence of the coach, Johnny Reindel and .Bob Clarke staged a court duel yes- terday afternoon that was really a peach. The first set stretched out until Bob took it late with an 8-6 score, then John came into his own Q and fought through the second set to win by 6 to 3. The men then set- ,tled down to conscientious work, the same as before but more in- tense, and the third set was full 0 of deuce games and nice. playing. 1 £Continued on Page 7) -- t Three off iowa's heavy hitters, who scored three of their team's five runs against the Wolverines ear- ier in the year. Nelsqn, the regular backstop, has an accurate throwing arm. Captain Mowry plays a de- piendable game nn center fki i, while Reedquist holds down the initial sack in a very capable manner. WOLVERINE CUBS TO,, UN IN MEET Freshmen Defeat Varsity Reserves, 10-8 as Wistert Limits-Subs to Eleven Hits probably play either 27 or 36 holes.} The Detroiters started the season with great promise of developing' into a first class aggregation, but they have been twice defeated in earlier meets. However, it is under- stood that they boast a well round- ed team with great potentialities. For this reason Coach Trueblood is not allowing his men to become overconfident. Royston, Lenfesty Show up Well. Capt. Royston and Lenfesty led the Varsity through their workout yesterday and gave conclusive evi- dence that a little warm weather was all that was needed to produce the best golf of which they are cap- able. They both were playing nice- ly and rounded the turn in close to par figures. Coach Trueblood has not yet de- cided on the lineup he will send against the Detroiters. Howard and Lenfesty are certain to start as one doubles team. Royston will pair with either Livingston or Jolly to form the other. Jolly or Livingston to Play Singles. Howard will not compete in the singles and Hand will fill his place. The other singles assignment will probably go to either Jolly or Liv- ingston depending on who plays in the morning. According to piresentF indications the one who is idle during the morning will get the af- ternoon assignment. YESTERDAY'S IOMESS Burnett ......... ....:Indians Simmons ............. The freshman track team will see its last action of the season this afternoon when the yearling thin- clads meet Wisconsin and Illinois in a triangular telegraphic meet. The Wolverine cubs will enter -the fray this afternoon decidedly as the underdogs, since Wisconsin defeat- ed the Ohio outfit which in turn took a decision of 83-57 from the Maize and Blue aggregation last week. There are very few of-the leaders who do not own at least one. Well dressed men in sport and society worlds are also wearing them more and more every year. College men are showing a great liking for them.
