Definite progress in the adminis- tration of the Women's League has marked the work of all activities undertaken this year, according to Eleanore Cooke, '31, retiring presi- dent. No new policies were launch- ed in the field of organization, but the main aim of furthering con- tacts between the League and its individual members has been real- ized. "The board of directors, in its administrative capacity, has per- formed its functions admirably in every respect," stated Miss Cooke. "Co-operation among the members has brought about a fuller realiza- tion of the League policies. The committee chairmen have been most efficient in the execution of their duties, for they have been ac- tive in stimulating interest in, League affairs among women on campus." "The social committee in particu- lar, deserves much credit for the work which it accomplished," Miss Cooke went on. "The series of par- ties which have been sponsored by the different houses have proven a success. They have brought the houses themselves as well as indi- vidual women into closer contact, and have made a greater use of the facilities offered by the League building for all undergraduate wo- men. The Mother and Daughter luncheon, which was given for the first time this year was a definite step forward in bringing the League closer to Michigan women." . Feeling of Security Comes Only Through Trust, Says Author Although psychiatrists say that a day school with other children hnd the right teacher is the ideal place for children, they admit that such teachers are almost non-existant. And Dorothy Canfield, in the May issue of McCall's magazine, has written an article showing that, after all, the child is better off, or at least more sure of himself, at home. Child specialists say that a child should not only be perfectly safe but should also have a feeling of security which can come to him only through one or two persons. It is not because the mother is a better woman than the teacher that the child is happier in the back-yard than in the school play- ground, because the teacher is very apt to be the superior woman. But each child knows that no matter how smsjl or insignificant a part of the school or street crowd he may be, to his mother, as to himself, he is profoundly and utterably differ- ent from any other human being who exists.
