Due to' the success of the canoe supper trip given by the Women's Athletic Association last Saturday, another party of the same type has been planned for next Saturday, May 9, to take the place of the na- ture hike formerly scheduled. All women students are invited to attend thij party as the guests of W.A.A. The group will meet at 2:30 o'clock at Saunder's Canoe livery, and each member of the party will bring her own supper. It is planned to return by 8:30 o'clock. Lists Posted For Names. Arrangements to attend the party can be made by signing the notice on the bulletin board of Barbour gymnasium or the Women's Athlet- ic building, or by calling Audrey Callander, '33, at 6845. The canoes will be rented by the committee from Saunder's. The nature hike, which was plan- ned for next Saturday afternoon, will be held later on in the season,' Miss Callandar announced yester- day. The other parties in the series planned by the outdoor department of W.A.A. will include an over- night hike to the forestry cabin on May 16, another canoe supper trip' on May 23 and a canoe contest onf May 30. Nine outdoor parties have already been held in this series which was inaugurated last fall. Planned For New Members. These outdoor parties have been especially planned for inactive or new members of W.A.A. who wish to become better acquainted with the organization, or who wish to earn the five points necessary for membership. Twenty-five points are awarded for attendance at five par- ties and 50 points for attendance at ten. In addition, one point is given for each mile hiked while on an outdoor party. Twenty-six women attended the canoe party held last Saturday aft- ernoon, on which the group fol- lowed a route up the river past the first portage to Barton pond. In case of rain, a hike will take place of the canoe trip next Satur- day. TYPEWRITER REPAIRING All makes of machines. Our equipment and per- s o n n e l are considered among the best in the State. Undoubtedly some of the most competent work represented in the student sculpture exhibit which i closed this past week-end was done by women artists. Outstanding in the group because of her ability in compositional design were the con- tributions of Helen V. Bailey. All of her work was characterized by a clever manipulation of bodily pose to express the mood of the subject. One of the strongest pieces which appeared in the show was Of the Sail, by Harriet Lawton. The three figures representing the peasant family type are well molded to- gether into an expressional unity, and the modelling of the forms has a pleasing massiveness w h i c h avoids any over-heaviness. Elaine Brockman's work has a peculiar quality of detached dream- iness. Whether one considers her portrait head or her nude studies there is always present a charac- teristic distant gaze. And Margar- et E. Smith although uncertain in her modelling and hesitant in her distinction between various surface textures has a certain spirit of her work which marks her. as another of the young individualists. Most characteristic and also the most promising thing in all of these contributions is the fact that they are definitely sculpurturesgue in, the sense which Michaelangelo described when he outlined the re- quirements of good sculpture i.e., they are welded into a unity of structure with no irrelevant pro- jections.
