BOXING SHOW IT Wolverine Gymnasts II to Meet Irn Team I AAP ATTI~lIP 1 i LfML HILIl'I -LIVIIILI, Enlund Loses To Taylor in Fast Bout in Middleweight Division. One of the most successful box- ing shows ever staged here was run off last night in the boxing room at the Intramural building under the direction of Coach Let Philbin. This tournament, an interclass affair, was comprised of five bouts, where seven had been originally planned, but two of the contestants failed to shov up in time to weigh in. L. Laser won his way into the finals of the lightheavyweight divi- sion by defeault when his opponent failed to make an apearance. In the feature bout of the eve- ning, Enlund, a junior, lost a close decision to Taylor, a first year man, after an extra round had been called after the judges were unable to pick the winner after the regu- lation three frames. In the welterweight class, Fox gained the judges decision over Red Elliott, of mat fame, in three rounds of furious fighting. This bout showed that both men have possibilities of developing into first rate fightersk There were two bouts scheduled in the lightweight division. In the first fight Golden won from McEl- wain by a decision while in the second Jack Ralstin, a freshman had rather an easy time convincing the judges that he was the best' man in the ring. The final bout was in tne featner- weight class, with Pocock winning the decision over R. White in a bout which kept the large crowd of spectators on their feet through- out the three rounds of fighting. This tournament last night was mainly for the purpose of stimulat- ing interest for the All-Campus boxing show which Coach Philben is planning for the near future, and according to the boxing mentor, more than fullfilled his expecta- tions both in the quality of the fighting shown and in the interest displayed. (Continued From Page 6) Steinburg and Hanna will be the only ones to carry the Maize and Blue colors in the side horse and parallel bars. Parker and Decker wil be Coach West's choice for the entered as the second Wolverine. flying rings. Michigan will have the regular number of entries in only one divi- sion-tumbling. Parker, Goldsmith, and Ellsworth are the Wolverine tumblers. Decker will uphold Mich- igan's honor in the swinging of the I Indian clubs. As a result of the ineligibility 'blow handed to the gymnasts, all hopes of a successful inaugural season have been swept aside. Dur- ing the first semester Michigan was rated on a par with Minensota. Illinois defeated Minnesota by a narrow margin and Coach West considered his former team equali to the Indian's with a good oppor- I tunity of winning the contest. IL FTgI SODMENT, Powerful Indian Team Will Test Varsity; Lineup Includes Pair of Champions. Michigan's Varsity fencing team will meet the strong Illinois team at Urbana tonight. Captain Gor- don will lead his team against the strongest aggregation in the Big Ten, which boasts of two individu- al champions in their veteran.line- up. Captain Seibert and Schlickert in the epee and sabre events are the two champions from the Illini that will meet Michigan. Each is' considered the strongest men in the Conference in their fields. The Gordon-Schlickert match in the sabre class will be a grudge affair as each has defeated the other once in previous meetings. Haier and Gross were former champions but are inelegible be- cause of graduation on the Indian team. However they still have Wheeler in the foils, and Gilbert and left-handed Friedberg as mas- ter foilsmen of last year's cham- pionship aggregation. Against these stars Coach John- stone will pit Captain Gordon, Friedman, and Lovell in the sabre class. Gordon and DeStefano will represent Michigan in the foils. Winig and Powers will fence in the epee division. (Continued From Page 6) losing the game by a final score of 28-15. In this game Campbell was the only man on the squad to cash in on more than one try from the floor, his total being two. All man- ner of combinations were tried dur- ing this game, but to no avail. On the other hand Michigan h a s shown great scoring power in its last three games, letting Chicago, Ohio State, and Ypsilanti Normal down by scores which total 127 points, while the opposition has been able to score only 45 markers. By the form which the Wolves have shown in the last games they have played, they rank as distinct favorites to em- ....erge from t h e game tonight as holders of third >.:.place without a tie, However. Coach Veenker's men have had a long layoff since t h e Ohio State game, and while they showed scor- ing ability a- "ALTENHOF gainst Ypsi, their fi o o r work left much to be desired in the way of smoothness. Despite the fact that it was re- ported that Ray Altenhof would not start tonight because of an injury to his ankle, Coach Veenker hopes that his star guard will be in shape to make an appearance when the fray opens. In case the blond flash is not able to start, Estil Tessmer, Varsity football player, will get the call. Tessmer has been sent into several games this year and has given a good account of himself in each appearance. Otherwise the line-up which will take the floor tonight will be the same as has been used in the last C o nfe ren ce games, with Eve- land and Petrie at the forwards, Daniels at center, a n d Williamson at guard. He is suffering from con-, cussion of the brain. After 31 minutes of wrestling Lutze pinned a double arm lock and body fall on George while they were against the ropes and both fell out of the ring. The 215-pound George landed on top and Lutze was severely shaken. It was a couple of minutes before the Paci- fic Coast grappler staggered back through the ropes. George ran in as Lutze gained the canvas, secured an inside crotch and body lock on the Cali- fornian, and slammed him to the l mat. Lutze was rendered uncon- scious. (Continued From Page 6) opening game of the Wisconsin ser- ies and appeared to be completely ooff form, losing the puck several times on advances and failing to make contacts with his passes. The whole offense seemed to lack that fine punch which means the dif-' ference between victory or defeat. When the teams go on the ict tonight the lineups will be approx- imately the same as those which faced each other in Thursday's em- broglio with the Cardinal strength centering around Thompson at left wing. Meiklejohn at right wing, Bach at center, and Metcalfe and Gallagher at the defensive posts. Frisch will b- busy stopping Michi- gan's thrusts at the net. The Maize and Blue sextet is unchanged with Tompkins doing the goal defense work, Williams and Prouse at de- fense, Crossman at center, and Reid and Schlanderer at the wing posi- tions.
