R.O.T.C. competi- tion is lined up with seven teams and they are scheduled to start to- morrow afternoon at 4:15. Tennis also starts today accord- ing to the schedule and 51 lineups have been turned in and arranged for competition. Psi U won the cup last year but they will not be com- peting this year. Horseshoes is in the same situation with their pres- ent champions, the Delta Epsilon team, failing to enter for this sea- son's competition. Otherwise 48 teams will be fighting to down riv- als and all comers to take over the undefended throne. Class, independent, faculty, and R.O.T.C . tennis a n d horseshoe leagues are expected to be ready for' action by May 10th which will be the second important day for the Intramural Department's s p r i n g sports program. There will also be an all-campus baseball field meet held in May. Cups, sweaters, and other awards are all up for the winners in each, division of this spring card. In conjunction with the qualify- ing trials for the Varsity golf squad, Coach Trueblood is planning a 36- hole medal play test to determine the make-up of this year's fresh- man squad. These trials will be held today, tomorrow, and Friday and1 are open to any freshman golfer on the campus. The same plan as (that used for the Varsity will be used, namely, 18 holes on any two of the above days. The exact number that will be re- tained on the squad throughout the year is so far undetermined, but Coach Trueblood intimated that room would be found for everyone who shows himself capable of con- sistently good golf. Johnny Bergelin, Varsity captain in 1929, will be in charge of the yearlings. Bergelin established an! enviable reputation for himself while in school, finishing second in the Big Ten meet at Minneapolis. Johnny Fisher, all-Campus cham- pion last fall, has been appointed captain of the freshman. Fisher gained considerable fame for him- self last summer in tournaments around the Cincinnati district, as well as holding down fourth posi- tion in' the Western Open after the first day's play. EXPER T ILL GIVE11 LIFE SAVING TESTS', Red Cross Examiner to be Here This Week; Certificates to be Awarded. In order to accommodate those students who will be seeking posi- tions this summer as life guards at beaches or as instructors in camps, and who will be required to furnish Red Cross certificates for life-sav- ing as a recommendation, there will be an examiner here this week to give tests to all interested. This will eliminate the necessity of waiting until the applicant gets out of school here and give him a chance to get his application for the post in as soon as possible. The Red Cross examiner comes from St. Louis by special arrangement and assistant swimming coach Mac- Mahon hopes to have a large num- ber of men down to take the tests. A preliminary class will be held this afternoon in the Intramural pool starting at 4 o'clock in which MacMahon will help any that may turn out to brush up on all the points that will be gone over in the three days of tests. The examiner will take over the applicants tomor- ! row afternoon and continue his tests through Friday and Saturday.
