Click One -- fir} ~pn~ fa oat WOLVES STILL INRACE By Sheldon C. Fullerton Noticeably off form offensively as' a result of the long layoff durin g examinations, Michigan's hockey sextet was held to a G-0 deadlock1 last night by a stubborn Wisconsin defense in the first Conference i clash of the season at the Coli- seum. Although the teams battled through two overtime periods, nei- ther one was able to push in the marker that meant a victory and a better chance for the Big Ten title. Even though Michigan should drop tomorrow night's clash, thef second game of the Wisconsin se- ries, the Wolverines would still maintain a mathematical chance to tie for the Conference title, but Emmy Reid. it is .generally conceded that the Varsity left wing, who was the team that wins tomorrow's game only Michigan forward consistently will be the one that will finally able to bother the Badger defense annex the championship. men in last night's game. Steinburg and Hanna will carry the veight of two events, being the only entries in the side- horse and parallel bar. In the fling- rings Parker and Decker will up- hold the Michigan colors. The regular three entries are only available in the tumbling divi- sion of the gym meet, Parker, Goldsmith, and Ellsworth. Decker will swing the Indian clubs as usual. This revised lineup means that I every man on the Michigan squad will have to enter two events. But even this will not give Michigan sufficient entries in four events. The lack of entries will cost the final Michigan score against Illi- nois, between 150-300 points. This is Michigan's first year in Big Ten gymnastic circles and they ineligibility blow has swept aside any hopes for a very successful year in this sport. Minnesota was rated on the same level with Michigan during the first semester. Illinois defeated Minnesota by a close mar- gin and Coach West considered his former squad equal to Illinois' with a good chance of winning Satur- day's meet. Fred Schiller and Harry Stein- burg are the two stars lost to the team. The former won two firsts and the latter a first and a second against Ohio State in the first Con- ference meet of the season. De.eat of Spartan Team Gives Coach Confidence in Squad for Conference Battle. After winning easily from Michi- gan State, Coach Johnstone con- siders his f-ncing team in excellent shape to fence the Big Ten cham- nion Illinois squad at Urbana Sat- urday. The Iinois roster includes two individual champions of last year, Captain Seibert, epee, and Schlic- kert, sabre. This veteran aggrega- tion also includes Wheeler, epee, Gilbert, strong man in the foils, and Friedberg, left-handed master of the foils. Against the champion, Schlickert, Captain Gordon of Michigan won one match and lost one in the sabres last year. Schlickert was probably the strongest sabre man in the Conference. Haier, foils, and G r o s s, sabre, were Conference champions last year but are lost to the Illini by the graduation route. Without these two champions Illi- nois is the strongest team in the Big Ten and if Michigan can win Saturday from them, they should follow it up with the Conference championship. Captain Gordon will lead his team in the foils and sabre. The latter is his favorite division but lack of material made him accept the foil position. Friedman and Lovell will be Michigan's other two entries in the foil- event and De- Stefano will team with Gordon in the sabres. Coach Johnstone will send Powers and Winig against Illinois in the epee division. Riechardt was ineli- (Continued on Page 7) Carl A. S.
