O'Doul's hitting was 10 points less. However, Bill Terry, first baseman of the Giants, beat both men out. But they forced Terry up to .401. Now Seek Pennant. The merging of O'Doul's hitting with that of other potent Dodgers has the club in a pennant frame of mind. Last season the Dodgers were in the running most of the way with no regular left fielder. Rube Bressler, Harvey Hendrick, Eddie Moore, and Ike Boone all were plugged in the hole, but none seemed to fit. None anywhere near approached the slugging mark of O'Doul, who will be in there this year. Lefty, along with Fresco Thomp- son, second baseman, came to the Dodgers in a trade that sent Jim Elliott, Clise Dudley, Hal Lee and cash to the Phillies. The major leagues of baseball will be swinging into action before not so many more weeks have gone by and then the country will ring with the arguments pro and con for every fan's favorite team or teams in the pennant races. TO WORKDUISUIE1 Weather Permitting, Michigan's Cinder Squad Will Drill on Field Monday. Michigan's thinclads will take to the outdoor track at Ferry. Field for their Monday afternoon prac- tice if the state of the weather and the condition of the track satisfy Coach Chuck Hoyt that an outdoor workout would not be something in the nature of a swimming meet or a polar expedition. Conditions pre- vailing at present would be unsatis- factory, however. All members of the squad, with the exception of the weight men, have had a layoff this week, as is customary following the final in- door meet of the year-this year, the Cornell meet held last Satur- day. The men in the weight events have been assigned to light work- outs, while the whole squad will turn out Monday if the weather- man and Coach Hoyt agree. The Wolverines want to get to work on Ferry Field as soon as pos- sible so that they may get into the best of shape for their outdoor cin- der schedule which will start April 24 with the Drake Relays held at Des Moines, Iowa. Western State Teachers Collegea basketball team will be lead by Har- old (Whitney) Althoff next year. Michigan Golf Team Practices on Driving Michigan's Varsity golfers will get out on the links as soon as the weather conditions permit. At pres- ent the members of the squad are practicing up on their drives int the net in the Intramural building. With practically the entire squad1 back from last season the Wolver- ines should make a better showingE on the links than they did a year ago. The four regulars on the team Hicks, Lenfesty, Howard, and Cap- tain Royston are practicing indoors and should be in right in the swing of things when they get outdoors. Hicks was beaten out in the race for individual Conference cham- pionship by a lone stroke in last year's meet, and the Wolves were only five strokes behind the teamI winners, Illinois. The entering of the first and sec- ond place winners is not certain as mnid-Semester examinations come at the same time as the tournament. Coach Keen is not certain that they will be sent for that reason. The five wrestlers are working out daily and with the National title dangling before their eyes are ex- pected to improve rapidly.
