MADISON, Wis., March 6.-- Mich- igan, favorites in the annual We't- ern Conference indoor tracl meet held at the field house here, ran true to form to lead the s-hools in the number of qualifiers, ,even men being eligible to participat the finals Saturday night. With five firsts, a second, ma w third, the Maize and Blue track- men stamped themselves. as serw threats to Wisconsin's supremacy as 1931 Big Ten champions. The Wolverines placed one or more men in every event. Eddie Tolan, Michigan's best nml in the dashes, copped his favorite event, beating out Captain Blil Henke of Wisconsin, when the 3aC- ger man pulled a tendon. R iloselI also took a first in the 60 yard da, besides getting a second in the 440 yard run. .4 Wlroverine Cagers to Face Indiana THESE MEN CARRY MAIZE AND BLUE CQLORS IN BIG TEN INDOOR TRACK MEET IN WISCONSIN FIELD HOUSE LIGHT DRILL GIV EN' NMICHIGAN MATMEN Coach's Absence Causes Slight Let-up in Practice for Conference Meet. With no meet this week and the absence of the coach necessitated, the Wolverines have had rather an easy time of it during practice this past week. Workouts were held daily though, stressing counters and working from the standing position in order to prevent an- other showing like the one against the Hoosiers, although the Wild- c its have bowed since to Michigan. Following these drills, the mainE purpose of which is really to keepE the men in good condition for the harder workouts coming next week, assistant Coach Donohue has been having the grapplers pair off and play handball. The Maize and Blue hopes of landing in second place rest on the outcome of tonight's game, and with opposi- tion as strong as the Hoosiers are sure to show, it will take a brilliant brand of basketball to move Coach Veenker's charges up in the rank- ings. Although Michigan already has defeated their opponents in one game this year, 33-24, this cannot be taken as a prediction that they will again win tonight. The Hoosiers have a strong team, but have not shown well in their last few games, and by the law of averages should be about due for a hot night. With Purdue almost, sure of win- ning from Iowa tonight, and Min- nesota equally certain of defeating Ohio State Monday, the Wolverines will have to leap both Indiana andt Chicago to stay in the race and enter a three-way tie for second place. At half-time in the first meeting between Indiana and Michigan the Hoosiers were leading 13-12, but could not keep up the pace during the second half. This game was without doubt the roughest fracas played in Ann Arbor this year.
