Michigan's fencers broke even in their matches over the week-end, winning over Wisconsin on Friday, 9-8, and dropping the one with Chicago on the following day by the same score. Both meets were held at the University of Chicago. The Wolverines dropped the foil matches to Chicago, 6-3; they also lost these bouts to the Badgers on the preceding night. Friedman re- tained the consistency which has marked his performances through- out the season, winning two out of his three bouts with the foils in both meets. Coach John Johnstone considers Friedman to be the best fencer on the Michigan squad, and without a doubt he is the outstand- , ing foil fencer in the entire Con- ference. Friedman's performance was all the more remarkable be- cause of the fact that he was very ill during the Chicago bouts. Captai.i Gordon was decidedly off form, winning only one out of the three foil bouts against the Maroons, in the Wisconsin meet the same thing was true. Lovell put up a hard fight in both meets, losing the bouts by close scores after having held the lead for a con- siderable time before his oppon- ents crept up on him. He won one bout against the Badgers.
