LANGEN NAMED CENTER biscu55iof of all Conference hockey selections which has been rife sincee the sensational finish of; one Vof, the most thrilling of Big Ten puck campaigns has been cli- maxed by the announcement of the impromptu choices of Coaches Ed- dio Lowrey and Johnny Farquhar, of Michigan anrd 'Wisconsin. These-selections are based entire- ly on the play of the various play- ers as merits were weighed by the coaches of these two teams.. 'omupkis Real Star. The coaches agree unanimously on the 'choice of the Wolverines, Tompkins as goalie, and Langen at center; Meiklej ohn, Wisconsin, wing and Peterson of Minnesota at de- Tense posts. Tompkins, only a soph- omore, was ranked over the veter- *ans, Christie of Minnesota and Frisch of Wisconsin. He earned the positioni because Hof his steady play. Little need be said about the other three except that if they ever pl~yed on the sane team. there would be no doubt ,as to the out- come. Langen was the most con- sistent and steady player of the three and ranked with Donniie Mc- Fayden, Marquette's All American, as the best players of the middle west. Dispute Arises in -Choice. A dispute seems to arise in the selection of the other two mem- bets. Lowrey has selected Joseph and Thomson of Wisconsin whileI the Badger mentor thinks that Metcalfe, Wisconsin, and Barthol-y di, Minnesota, are the better men.1 The last two have been chosen as# altern1ates on the Wolverine men- tor's team and therefore, little can be said again~st the choice as the first selection was based solely on the .play agalist the champion sex- tette. 'Thoms'on in reality has play- ed defense all season but his 'un- usual display in handling the puck, as a forward accounts for his se- lection over Metcalf e. The fight be- tween artholdi and Joseph was keen for first place and therefore neither coach can be blamed for the choice. Our own Sammy H-art was chosen' as an alternate and he makes the fourth member of the local puck chasers to make the team. Little surprise was expressed pver this °choice for all who have watched this flashy puckster real- ize that he was a hockey player! 61 no mean ability. Friedlman and Axtrin are the n~ewI All-Campus handbl l donblco j champions by virtue of thn-ir de- fetof Collins and Enlemen iii straight sets yesterday at the ln- tramural Sports building. The 'new champions assumed a comn- Imanding lead at the outset of the contest and their supremacy' was, never s'eriously thretened save for a brief period in the second set which produced somfe of the best play of the cont'est. The first game ended 21-10; the 21-0t result of the second game is not indicative of the opposition which the losers of- fered. All four finalists in this' year's tournament commenced to' play handball at the beginning of" the present season and each team; defeated several more experienced players during the tournament. TI'he winners of the tournament will receive individual, engraved troph- ies. Phi Chi, five times winner of the All-Year Intramural Sports Trophy during the past six years, anda leader in this year's contest, seems destined to be. displaced in the final standing by Alpha Omega who have already accumulated an advantage of 111 points. Phi' ChiI was beaten for th'e first time in 1927 by Phi Lambda Kappa. In1 addition to being.a leading profes- sional fraternity in Intramural competition, Phi Chi ranks :fifth among all fraternities on the camn- Ipars.
