Wallace Wessels, Acting Editor, Student Directory Hawaiians Menaced By Volcanic Quakes (fly Associatedl Press) HILO, Hawaii, Sept. 30.-Having. experienced more than 200 earth- quakes in a week, the populace of the western part of the island of Hawaii, today awaited with some apprehension the coming of more temblors and the eruption of its volcanoes as predicted by Dr.. Thomas A. Jaggar, volcanologist. A series of quakes ending at 8 o'clock Sunday morning was fol- lowed by Dr. Jaggar's latest predic- tion. The volcanologist asserted western Hawaii probably would be visited by shocks more severe than those of the. last week, but that they doubtless woul come at long- er intervals than those already felt, Twenty-five shocks were felt in the series ending this morning. Although the shock of last Thursday seemingly caused more damage than any other thus far, Hilo got its greatest shaking Satur- day, when streets were ripped open, buildings moved on their founda- tions and walls cracked. Dr. Jaggar has predicted that at least one and possibly all the prin- cipal volcanic mountains of -west- ern Hawaii will erupt. These are Mauna, Loa, Kilauea and Hualalai. The latter. has been dormant since 1801. R. Gesell Organic Chemistry, Course 167: la course is intended to parallel Course 165, 2 hours credit, and thi charge of Dr. Bachmann.
