There was Bernard- Moses who was a professor of history at the University of Cali- fornia for so many years. Then there was Day who became Sec- retary of State under Garfield, and later a Justice of the U. S. Supreme court. Professor Beaman who taught mathematics here at Michi- gan was a member of our class, those days was ab ou i,2uu. He looked incredulous when told that enrollment in these days is about 10,000. "How things have changed," he kept repeating. "Why right on this spot, (we were standing behind University hall) there used to be an old pump where we could duck the freshmen when they became too frisky." "Well," he concluded," I'll wander around and see the rest of the campus. You're got a wonderful school here alright. But," he sighed,. "It isn't like .the old days." R I A Geo. S.
